Did you know that school girls who become pregnant can go back to school ?

Pregnancy should not be the gateway for girls to be married off. The Ghana Education Service Re-entry Policy allows girls who dropout as a result of pregnancy to go back to school after childbirth

As we commemorate this year's International Girls Day, Human Rights &Development Services entreat all parents and Caregivers to take advantage of this provision to ensure girls learn and grow to achieve their dreams.

🚨 TRIGGER WARNING

**SHE LEFT HIM. HE JUST FOUND NEW WAYS TO AB*SE HER.**

We tell survivors to leave as though walking out the door is the finish line. Get away. File for divorce. Protect the children. Start over.

But what happens when leaving doesn't end the ab*se?

For some survivors, separation simply changes the weapons being used against them.

The relationship ends, but suddenly there are endless custody battles, financial control, threats involving the children, withheld resources, intimidation, surveillance, rumors designed to destroy credibility, and court filings that force survivors to remain connected to the very person they escaped.

Rebecca Zimmerman described her ab*se becoming significantly worse after she filed for divorce. She had documented prior incidents and says a judge acknowledged evidence that her former partner had been surveilling her—yet the court still ordered 50/50 custody.

Another survivor, Leah Recor, described something survivors rarely hear discussed: the secondary trauma of finally finding the courage to leave and then discovering that the systems you believed would protect you may not believe you.

That's what makes post-separation ab*se so terrifying.

**THE ABUSER MAY LOSE ACCESS TO YOUR HOME WITHOUT LOSING ACCESS TO YOUR LIFE.**

Children can become leverage. Money can become control. Courtrooms can become another battleground. Friends and family can be manipulated. And every attempt to move forward can become another opportunity to pull a survivor back into conflict.

Leaving matters.

But we need to stop pretending leaving always means it's over.

Sometimes that's when another fight begins.

53,414 of Our Girls Need a Second Chance, Not Shame.

The Ghana Health Service says 53,414 girls aged 10-19 got pregnant between January and July 2026. 1,501 of them are just 10-14 years old. These are children who have suffered abuse.

Pregnancy should not be the gateway for these "Girls to become Brides".

Ghana has a Re-Entry Policy by Ghana Education Service that allows pregnant girls and young mothers to go back to school. Many girls are sacked, shamed, or forced to stay home because Headteachers, parents and communities have little or no knowledge of the policy.

To every Director of Education, Headteacher, Parent: Let's enforce the policy.

A pregnant girl is still a child with a right to education. Let's get these 53,414 girls BACK TO SCHOOL

"DIDN'T I PAY FOR YOU?"

This one sentence has trapped many Ghanaian women in silence, abuse, and fear.

Let's be clear:

BRIDE PRICE IS NOT A PURCHASE. IT IS NOT A RECEIPT. IT IS NOT OWNERSHIP.

In our culture, bride price is meant to be a symbol of respect, appreciation and family union. It is NOT payment that gives a man the right to control, beat, r**e, or silence his wife.

Paying bride price does NOT mean:
You own her body
She cannot say NO
She is your property

Marriage is PARTNERSHIP, not POSSESSION.
Marriage is respect, not receipt.

If she is afraid in her own home, that is not marriage. That is abuse.

To men: Love does not shout "I paid for you!" Love protects, listens and partners.

To women: Bride price does not cancel your human rights. You have the right to dignity, safety, and to say NO.

Let's rewrite the narrative together.
