Despite the many positive effects accrued from biochar application to soil, African smallholder farmers have shown little or no adoption, probably because most biochar-based research has mainly been carried out on researcher-managed plots without the participation of farmers.
SATA promotes biochar adoption in smallholder farmers by training farmers to produce biochar with their on-farm residues using affordable, environmentally friendly and efficient biochar reactors and involving them in biochar-related research work.
