Abams Per 10K Children Project We are giving each child the right to own a pair of sandals for school regardless of the location.

ABAMS PER 10K CHILDREN PROJECT

This initiative was started in 2019 by Sampson A A Acquaye also known as ABAMS. A young shoemaker and entrepreneur who wanted to give back to society through his talents and resources. He chose this project because he believed that education is key in helping people out of poverty. With education, one can find a job and get out of poverty by earning an income that

will enable him/her take care of himself/herself and his/her family members. The idea came about when he saw how children were walking barefoot to school and how some of them were forced to stay at home because they could not afford a pair of sandals. He saw the need for footwear as a basic necessity in the lives of children who are unable to afford it. He also noticed that because many kids have no footwear and hence suffer from serious health challenges such as;

• Foot infections (such as athlete’s foot) are more likely to occur in those who go barefoot or wear shoes with holes in them;

• Children are more likely to get their feet caught in mud or puddles than those with shoes on;

• Those who go barefoot have higher chances of developing foot deformities such as flat feet;

• Barefoot kids have higher risk of getting cuts and abrasions on their feet, which can lead to infections if left untreated;

The project is being executed by Team Abams a team of young professionals, who are passionate about the mission. The team is comprised of a shoemaker, marketing specialist, graphic designer, photographer, accountants, fashion designers,event organizers, nurses, traders and other support stuff. The Abams Per 10k Children Project has so far distributed over 300 pairs of leather sandals across various schools within Accra and Volta Region. The first project evolved in an area known as Nungua a suburb of Accra and
Nyitawuta D/A Primary and Junior High School a suburb of Akatsi in the Volta Region. We are planning to expand it to more schools after thorough assessment of the current situation. The next phase will see us reach out to other towns in the cities across the country including Cape Coast, Kumasi, Takoradi,Koforidua , Bolgatanga among others. We are also planning to launch this project in other African countries soon. Aims and Objectives;

* To provide free footwear’s for children in deprived communities of Ghana.

* To enhance the self esteem of children of all ages.

* To promote the health and well being of children of all ages.

* To provide mentorship opportunities for young people who are interested in pursuing careers in shoemaking. We would like to extend our appreciation to all who have supported us on this noble cause so far and we promise not stop here but continue doing more good in the lives of others around us through our passion and skills.
