Student clubs and organizations are a great way to not only build upon leadership skills and engage in campus activities, but also to have fun and make lasting relationships and friends. At the most basic level, youth clubs give young people something positive and fun to do, stopping them getting into trouble. The leadership roles that are available in clubs provide a valuable experience that is n
ot generally available to young people in the classroom. They provide opportunities for youth to participate in activities, interact with peers in a supervised setting, and form relationships with adults. YAG believes that, for all young people in Ghana, they face key challenges in making the transition from childhood to adulthood, from dependence to independence. They need to negotiate their way through a web of relationships and across a range of obstacles to become confident, active and fulfilled members of society. They need to be involved to their own development, and to contribute to their own communities and wider society. YAG CLUB therefore seeks to harness the potential of young people, provide them opportunities to serve their communities and develop their leadership skills. Objectives:
The YAG CLUB shall abide by the principles, objectives and vision for which Youth Advocates Ghana-YAG was formed. Specific objectives are:
a) Create a forum that provides students opportunities to develop, refine and practice leadership skills
b) Empower students to use their leadership skills to affect positive change in their school and community environment
c) Invest in future leaders through mentorship and leadership training programmes
d) Increase awareness of social issues including HIV/AIDS, early parenthood, sexual violence, and sexual reproductive health within the school environment.
