The Centre for Centre for Climate Change & Food Security (CCCFS) was represented at the Clean Air Fund’s Stakeholder Convening on Air Quality in Kumasi.

This engagement aligns with our mission to promote sustainable environmental practices and support initiatives that drive cleaner air and healthier communities.

It also provided an opportunity to engage with key stakeholders, share insights, and contribute to conversations focused on collaborative, data-driven solutions for air quality improvement.

Dodowa Forest is under serious threat. We must act now

The Centre for Climate Change and Food Security (CCCFS) is deeply worried about the ongoing destruction of the Dodowa Forest.

This forest is part of the history, identity, and environment of the people of Dodowa. For many years, community members, young people, and institutions have worked hard to plant thousands of trees there. Today, much of that effort is being destroyed.

From what we have seen so far, heavy machines have moved into the area, and parts of the forest are being cleared to make space for the relocation of market traders and the construction of a new market.

At a time when Ghana is already suffering from climate change, heat, poor rainfall, loss of biodiversity, and the destruction caused by galamsey, destroying a community forest should never be an option.

There are other places where the markets can be constructed touching the forest. Using the forest is a choice, and sadly, it is the wrong one.

We are calling on the Government, the Regional Minister, the District Assembly, the Forestry Commission, the EPA, traditional leaders, journalists, and all concerned citizens to step in immediately.

Our call is simple to stop all clearing works now, investigate who gave the order, find another place for the market, restore the damaged parts of the forest, and protect what is left..

If we stay silent today, tomorrow there may be nothing left to save. Please lend your voice. Speak up for Dodowa Forest before it is too late.

We must save Dodowa Forest and protect our future.

In November 2025, CCCFS proposed an incentive-based, community-led strategy to fight galamsey by empowering chiefs, youth, and local institutions with rewards tied to environmental protection.

Today, similar grassroots reform ideas are making headlines again.

When the nation begins to discuss today what CCCFS proposed yesterday, what does that say about foresight, leadership, and policy relevance?
Sometimes, the most powerful ideas are the ones that arrive before the applause.

When appliances are left on unnecessarily, more electricity is used, and more fuel is burned to generate power.

This releases carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.

Simple habits like switching off lights, fans, and devices when not in use can help reduce our impact on the climate.

Tomato Imports Signal Regional Complementarity, Not Local Shortage

Ghana’s tomato markets are benefiting from regional trade, not facing a domestic shortage.

Seasonal variations in local production mean imports from neighboring countries help stabilize supply, support food security, and ensure that consumers have access to fresh tomatoes year-round.

Strategic cross-border partnerships highlight West Africa’s capacity to complement each other’s production rather than compete.

Cross-border trade is not a failure.

It is a pillar of regional integration, food security, and economic resilience.

In line with ECOWAS Free Movement principles and AfCFTA goals, Centre For Climate Change & Food Security (CCCFS) emphasizes that protecting cross-border agricultural traders is essential to keeping supply chains stable, food prices affordable, and livelihoods secure.

Attacks on traders undermine not only lives, but the shared economic future of West Africa.

Ensuring trader safety is ensuring regional growth.

The Centre for Climate Change & Food Security (CCCFS) will organise a Climate and Environmental Seminar for students of University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (USTED) in Kumasi as part of efforts to strengthen youth participation in climate advocacy and environmental protection.

The programme will include expert presentations, student engagement sessions, and discussions on sustainable practices.

The event will also lead to the establishment of a student-led campus group, the CCCFS-FACT Club (For Action on Climate Today), to sustain awareness campaigns, environmental initiatives, and student participation in climate action programmes.

CCCFS believes that empowering young people through education and organised platforms remains critical to addressing climate and food security challenges.

Proper waste disposal starts with the small choices we make every day.

Separating plastics from food waste, reusing containers, and reducing plastic use can help keep our streets clean, prevent drains from choking, and protect our environment.

Let’s all do our part to keep our communities clean and safe.
