The rain is not the problem. The waste is.
Every year, heavy rains hit Ghana, and every year, flooded streets, submerged homes, and blocked drains follow. But here is the hard truth: the floods we experience are not just a weather problem. They are a waste management problem.
Plastic bags, styrofoam, and litter dumped carelessly into gutters and drains turn every heavy rainfall into a disaster waiting to happen. The water has nowhere to go, so it goes everywhere.
Flood prevention is not only an engineering challenge. It is a community responsibility. And it starts with each one of us making better choices about how we handle our waste every single day.
Swipe to see what we can all do to keep our drains clear and our communities safe.

Happy World Ocean Day from all of us at RUG!
The ocean covers over 70% of our planet, produces more than half of the world's oxygen, regulates our climate, and sustains the livelihoods of billions of people, including millions right here along Ghana's coastline. Yet every single day, it absorbs the consequence of our carelessness.
Plastic waste. Chemical runoff. Overfishing. Rising temperatures. The ocean is under pressure, and it is asking us to do better.
SDG 14, Life Below Water, is not just a global goal. It is a local responsibility. Every piece of plastic we keep off our beaches, every drain we keep clean, every fishing practice we manage sustainably is a vote for a healthier ocean.
The blue jewel of our planet is worth protecting. Today and every day.

Happy World Environment Day from all of us at RUG!
Today, we are reminded that the planet we live on is not inherited from our ancestors, it is borrowed from our children. Every tree standing, every clean river flowing, every breath of fresh air is a gift we have a responsibility to protect and pass on.
Taking care of the planet is not a seasonal commitment. It is a daily one. It shows up in the choices we make, the habits we build, and the systems we demand from those who lead us.
At RUG, this day is not just a commemoration, it is a reaffirmation of why we show up every single day to Empower, Innovate, and Sustain.
To everyone doing their part , no matter how small it may seem, thank you. The planet feels it.

Small changes. Big impact.
The poly bag is convenient, we know. But convenience has a cost that our communities, our drains, and our environment are paying every single day.
The good news? The alternative is simple. Cane baskets and Bolga bags are stronger, last 3–5 years, support local artisans, and actually save you money in the long run. This isn't a new idea, it's going back to what we already knew before plastic took over.
Cultural change begins with us. And it begins with the choices we make every single day, at the market, at the shop, and at home.
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

Big news for Ghana's environment, and it's a win.
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has officially announced a ban on the production, importation, distribution, sale, and use of Styrofoam, commonly known as takeaway packs, effective 1st January 2027.
Styrofoam is one of the most environmentally damaging materials in use today. It does not biodegrade, it contaminates food, it clogs our drains, and it is nearly impossible to recycle locally. This ban is long overdue, and we are here for it.
To food vendors, restaurants, and businesses — the time to start transitioning to eco-friendly alternatives is now, not 2027. Biodegradable containers, leaf wraps, reusable packs, and paper-based packaging are all available and accessible.
Adapt early. Lead the change.

One habit. One cleaner Ghana.
Ghana's waste problem doesn't start at the landfill, it starts at home - and so does the solution.
Mixing plastic waste with food waste is one of the most common habits silently making our waste crisis worse. It clogs our drains, worsens flooding, and makes recycling nearly impossible. But the fix is simpler than you think.
Keep a separate bin for plastic waste at home. That one small action makes it easier for recyclers to do their work, keeps our communities cleaner, and helps build a Ghana where waste is managed properly.
Swipe through to see why waste separation matters and how you can start today.

Africa is not just a continent, it is a promise of greatness, a testament to resilience, and a beacon of hope for the world.
For centuries, Africa has risen through challenges, united by a shared vision of progress and a deep-rooted belief in the power of its people. Today, on African Union Day, we pause to celebrate that spirit, the spirit of unity, solidarity, and collective strength that binds 55 nations as one.
At RUG, we are proud to stand alongside every community builder, every young innovator, every grassroots changemaker, and every leader who wakes up each day determined to make Africa better than they found it. Your work matters. Your vision matters. Africa sees you.
This day is a reminder that the future of Africa is not something we wait for, it is something we build together, one community at a time.
Together, we Empower. We Innovate. We Sustain.

RUG@10 , A Decade Worth Looking Back At.

Throwback to one of the most meaningful days in RUG's history, our RUG@10 Anniversary Summit.

Ten years is not just a number. It is late nights, bold decisions, community visits, startups reshaped, plastic recovered, and lives changed. It is every person who said yes to this mission when it wasn't the easiest thing to say yes to.
We gathered to do more thing but three things stood out on that day:
Reflect; on where we started and the winding road it took to get here
Celebrate; the milestones, the people, the impact that a decade of dedication has produced
Look Forward; because ten years in, the vision is bigger than ever

Looking back at these pictures, we are reminded of why this work matters and who it is for.
Here's to the next decade.
