⚪📍KNUST College of Health Sciences: Nereus Gyasi Crowned Valedictorian📍⚪
We, the KNUST Student Activists, celebrate Nereus Mensah Gyasi, BSc Disability & Rehabilitation Studies, CWA 80.50 who has been named the overall best student.
His academic dream almost sank after both parents fell disabled through medical negligence (father lost sight in 2015; mother suffered stroke‑induced paralysis in 2019). After his grandmother’s death, financial ruin threatened his third‑year studies until the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program intervened.
Despite WASSCE setbacks (2 As, 3 Bs, 3 Cs), he surged forward, taking on *26 leadership roles*, including:
1. Founder & CEO, Nereus Support Network (impacting 1,000+ youths)
2. Disability Rights Advocacy Lead, Commonwealth Youth Council
3. President, Ghana Association of Disability & Rehab Students (KNUST)
4. Kufuor Scholar
Now a Research and Teaching Assistant, School of Public Health, he mentors peers in research methodology and biostatistics. His resilience transforms personal tragedy into campus‑wide advocacy, lighting the path for every student facing hardship.
It's not a question of race, it's a question of ideas
