First Laparoscopic surgery

Dear Friends of Gye Nyame,

This month, the youngest preterm baby has been born in our Mother & Baby Unit in St. Patrick's Missionary Hospital ALIVE!!! Baby Adwoa weighed at 30 pregnancy weeks just 1.100 g, and she is strong and well. Her mother died during delivery of an unknown cause, most probably lung emboli.

Africa....!

This time I could operate 26 children, and what is most encouraging is that 50% were under 3 years old (which means that mothers now trust us and bring their babies!).

More than 240 children were screened for surgical diseases and over 100 are still on our waiting list.

But the happiest moment was when we could operate.... FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WEST AFRICA (according to my research) laparoscopically a small child. Karl Storz Company donated a brand new 3,5mm laparoscopic baby set and with the help of our enthusiastic and professional local theatre team, it was all done in a safe and calm way. Halleluja!

Baby Hamid would have been left with a disturbing malformation if not operated. This started a new era of quality standard care that children worldwide should receive!

And all this is possible through having you on board!!
