School Complex in Wapuli to carry out a powerful and engaging awareness campaign on human trafficking. The school, which includes Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High School, has a vibrant population of 670 students.

With the warm support of the headmaster and staff, the team spent the day educating students on the dangers of human traffickingโ€”how traffickers operate, the warning signs, and how to stay safe. To make the message more memorable, the team prepared creative placards and designed campaignโ€‘branded outfits for the outreach assistants who helped lead the activities.

The response from the students was inspiring. They connected deeply with the discussions and proudly embraced the campaign slogan:
โ€œ๐‡๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ฌ ๐€๐ซ๐ž ๐๐จ๐ญ ๐…๐จ๐ซ ๐’๐š๐ฅ๐ž.โ€
The children were encouraged to take this slogan home and boldly share it with their families and communities.

During the session, the head teacher expressed sincere appreciation for the initiative. He also shared a sobering real-life story that had occurred at the school months earlier: two students were deceived with a fake job offer in Techiman. Believing the promise, they left school and travelled there, only to discover a completely different and troubling reality.
Thankfully, they managed to reach their parents and were eventually rescued and brought home safely.
This incident highlighted just how critical this awareness campaign is. The head teacher strongly suggested forming an Anti-Human Trafficking Club in the school to help sustain awareness and empower students long-term.

To ensure that every student fully understood the message, the team presented in both English and the local language. This inclusive approach allowed learners of all ages and backgrounds to follow along, ask questions, and participate meaningfully.
Looking ahead, the Yendi Network of ConPAHTโ€“Taliha K*m Ghana, under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Chigaekwu, is already preparing the next phase of this missionโ€”taking the awareness campaign to the Senior High School in the area. The goal is simple but vital: to ensure that even more young people are informed, alert, and protected from human trafficking.

The session focused on helping students identify the signs of trafficking. They were cautioned to be extremely wary of enticing promisesโ€”especially offers of wellโ€‘paid jobs abroad which traffickers often use to lure unsuspecting victims.

The team explained that human trafficking is a modern form of slavery, where perpetrators force victims into abusive and exploitative activities such as prostitution, child labour, forced labour, and domestic servitude. Students learned that domestic servitude often involves children, mostly girls, being forced to work long hours in households under harsh, controlling, and abusive conditionsโ€”all without freedom, safety, or dignity.

They were also informed that traffickers are not always strangers; they may even be ๐Ÿ๐š๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ, ๐œ๐ก๐ฎ๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐š๐œ๐ช๐ฎ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ฌ, ๐ง๐ž๐ข๐ ๐ก๐›๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ, ๐จ๐ซ ๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ, making the crime even more deceptive and dangerous.
At the end of the session, the students asked insightful questions and publicly shared what they had learned, demonstrating strong understanding and awareness of the topic.

To further promote community sensitization, the students received leaflets and posters to help spread awareness on human trafficking and domestic servitude within their neighbourhoods.

Members of the Consecrated Persons Against Human Trafficking (ConPAHT โ€“ Talitha K*m Ghana) held an impactful human trafficking awareness campaign today at Asokwa Presbyterian Junior High School. The threeโ€‘member outreach team interacted with about 200 learners in the schoolโ€™s assembly hall, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence they need to stay safe and informed.

This outreach formed part of the ongoing childโ€‘protection efforts championed under the leadership of Sr. Olivia Umoh, DC, National Coordinator of ConPAHTโ€“Talitha K*m Ghana, whose continuous guidance and commitment made this campaign possible. Her support during the preparation phase ensured the team was wellโ€‘positioned to deliver a meaningful and engaging session.

Guided by the central message, โ€œ๐‘ฉ๐’†๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’Š๐’๐’‡๐’๐’“๐’Ž๐’†๐’… ๐’†๐’‚๐’“๐’๐’š ๐’Š๐’” ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’‡๐’Š๐’“๐’”๐’• ๐’”๐’•๐’†๐’‘ ๐’•๐’ ๐’‘๐’“๐’๐’•๐’†๐’„๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’,โ€ the session focused on raising awareness about human trafficking, child labour, domestic servitude, sexual exploitation, and forced labour within fishing and farming communities.

Ms. Eugenia Akotoโ€‘Mensah, Programmes Manager for Talitha K*m Ghana, delivered the keynote address. She broke down the concept of human trafficking, its causes, warning signs, effects, and prevention strategies, ensuring learners clearly understood the risks involved.
Eugenia emphasized that traffickers often use deceit, manipulation, false promises, or force to exploit children. She reminded students that traffickers are not always strangers โ€” sometimes they may be relatives, neighbours, or peers. She also urged the learners to be cautious of tempting offers, including scholarships or travel opportunities that seem too good to be true.

During an interactive discussion, students identified poverty, unemployment, drug abuse, peer pressure, child streetism, and broken homes as major drivers of trafficking. Eugenia further explained the severe consequences of trafficking, such as physical and emotional abuse, longโ€‘term trauma, loss of education, health complications, and violations of human rights. She also highlighted how traffickers increasingly use romance scams and social media manipulation to target young people.

Following her presentation, Ms. Rosina Serwaa Aborkpui, a Social Worker at Talitha K*m Ghana, spoke to the students about their role in preventing human trafficking. She stressed that trafficking is a crime against humanity and encouraged the learners to raise awareness, look out for signs, support friends, and speak up whenever they feel unsafe. She noted that although trafficking is preventable, its consequences are painful and longโ€‘lasting.

To conclude the programme, Mr. Osei Dacosta, I.T. Support Manager for Talitha K*m Ghana, encouraged the students to share what they learned and always stay alert. He led the distribution of educational flyers and placed awareness stickers around the school compound. Dacosta also expressed gratitude to the headteacher and staff for offering the platform to educate the learners.

The session ended with group photographs and the studentsโ€™ enthusiastic chant:

On Thursday, 5th February 2026, members of Consecrated Persons Against Human Trafficking (ConPAHTโ€“Talitha K*m Ghana) gathered in a solemn and compassionate prayer session with seven survivors of human trafficking who were preparing to be reintegrated into their home countries.

The prayer gathering formed part of the global observance of the World Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking, a day strategically celebrated on February 8, the Feast Day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who is the Patron Saint of all victims of human trafficking and modernโ€‘day slavery. St. Bakhitaโ€™s life, marked by captivity, suffering, and her eventual journey into faith and freedom, stands as a beacon of hope and a powerful symbol of dignity for survivors worldwide.

This annual observance aims to:
~ Raise awareness about the many forms of human trafficking, including sexual exploitation, forced labour, domestic servitude, forced marriage, and online exploitation.
~ Pray for victims and survivors, offering spiritual solidarity, healing, and renewed hope.
~ Mobilize communities to take concrete action in preventing trafficking and supporting survivors in rebuilding dignified lives.
~ Promote global collaboration through the Talitha K*m Network, together with the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) and other Church bodies. The day was established by Pope Francis in 2015 to strengthen the worldwide fight against modern slavery.

This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œ๐๐ž๐š๐œ๐ž ๐๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ƒ๐ข๐ ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ: ๐€ ๐†๐ฅ๐จ๐›๐š๐ฅ ๐‚๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ญ๐จ ๐„๐ง๐ ๐‡๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ง ๐“๐ซ๐š๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ข๐œ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐ ,โ€ guided the spirit of the gathering.
During the session, Sr. Olivia Umoh, DC, National Coordinator of ConPAHTโ€“Talitha K*m Ghana, invited the survivors into a quiet time of reflection. She encouraged them to think deeply about their experiences since arriving in Ghana. Following this reflection, they were invited to share openly: how traffickers lured them, what they encountered upon reaching their supposed destinations, and what advice they wished to give other young people eager to travel abroad.

The survivors shared their stories with courage and sobriety. Many explained that they had been deceived with promises of wellโ€‘paid jobs in boutiques or supermarkets in Ghana, only to be forced into prostitution upon arrival. They expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for their rescue and for finding safety, counselling, and compassionate support at ConPAHTโ€“Talitha K*m Ghana.

The Talitha K*m team offered words of guidance to strengthen the young womenโ€™s hope, faith, and sense of dignity. We encouraged them to embrace the possibility of becoming advocate voices of warning and hope to help prevent other vulnerable individuals from falling into the hands of traffickers.
To extend the impact of the day, the team held a walking procession with the survivors, followed by a placard campaignโ€”a symbolic photoshoot aimed at raising awareness about human trafficking. The messages on the placards echoed themes of freedom, dignity, and collective responsibility.

The commemoration concluded with preparations to ensure the survivorsโ€™ safe return to their home countries, a step that marked the beginning of their healing and reintegration journey.
