Latter Rain and Pentecostal (Prt 2)

We shall prepare our minds with the statement from the Spirit of Prophecy –
“… The unfolding of the prophetic scroll will reveal to all "what manner of spirit" (Gospel Workers, p. 302).

This is beautiful and concise statement showing that a revelation of timely truth will reveal our true spirit whether we are willing to exchange error for truth, or whether determined to identify ourselves with the class who will forever be found Ignorantly fighting the Truth.

In part one of the study we learnt that the “Latter Rain” of Zech. 10:1 and Joel 2:23 is symbolical representation of “Timely Truth” designed to bring the people of God to full maturity, full Christian stature before the harvest (Joel 2:24). Thus, when the terms - grass, wheat, or corn are employed to designate God’s people in the latter days (Isa. 40:6, 7), then the spiritual food necessary to bring them to their full Christian stature is appropriately termed "Latter Rain" (Deut. 32: 1, 2).

The latter rain to SDA Church accordingly, is the last message (rain), a miracle-working Truth that precedes the harvest of which the 144,000 are the first fruits (Rev. 14:4). The last message (a latter rain of truth) to the poor, lukewarm, blind, miserable, deplorable Laodicean Church. A message of revival and reformation to awake, revive and prepare them for harvest (Testimony to Ministers pg 506. par. 2, 3).

Therefore, says the Spirit of Prophecy, if we do not progress to have a clear conception of the latter rain as Seventh-day Adventists, It may be falling on hearts around us but we shall not discern and receive it. And if we not recognize the manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the latter rain and receive it, continues the Spirit of Prophecy, "we shall lose our souls, and the responsibility will lie at our own doors." {TM 507.2}.

This manifestation of the Spirit in Truth (Joel 2:23; Zech. 10:1) however, should not be confused with the manifestation of the Spirit in Power (Joel 2:28). Now we turn to

Joel 2:28, 29.
“And it shall come to pass afterward, *(after the former and latter rain of verse 23 are given)* that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.”

In the light of advanced light, as truth progresses, we see that the latter rain (Joel 2:23) and the latter Pentecost (Joel 2:28) are two distinctly separate and successive but intimately related manifestations of the Holy Spirit. In fact, it is plain to every discerning student of scripture that verse 28 shows that the outpouring of the Spirit comes AFTER the former and the latter rains of verse 23 are given. Thus, the shower of the latter rain in truth (Joel 2:23) finish its work of preparing the church, developing character before the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in power (Joel 2:28). I do not know of anything clearer than this. This is Bible and this is truth! The Spirit of Prophecy again puts it this way;

“… The Spirit of God will be poured out upon the church just as soon as the vessels are prepared to receive it. . . . Why not exercise faith that the divine blessings of the Holy Spirit shall increase in large measure and will intensify human agencies, so that the glory of the Lord shall be revealed?” - Christ Triumphant (CTr) 45.2

Hosea 6:3 reads; “Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.” (Hosea 6:3).

Ponder on this verse. The Lord appears unto us as morning in a form of rain (message or light) and He keeps moving with the light (rain) as the sun rises in the morning and keep moving until sunset. Therefore the word of God is likened unto the sun. Thus, “The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. Pro 4:18. Hosea simply says the Lord will come to us as rain, he will visit us with a message, and since this message (rain) is designed to bring righteousness, Hosea 10:12 adds;
“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Hosea 10:12

The above is simply referring to the time of the rain. Since the rain is a message of righteousness, the phrase – “Sow to yourselves in righteousness” means live righteous life according that latter rain message, and you will “reap in mercy” means that God will mercifully reward you with Christ righteousness. Thus, live righteous life when the latter rain is falling, and receive Christ righteous in mercy.

The phrase; “Break up your fallow ground” means prepare your heart that is to receive the rain, seek for the rain and God will rain a message of righteousness upon you. The Spirit of prophecy again, puts it this way;

"Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain.” Do not rest satisfied that in the ordinary course of the season, rain will fall. Ask for it. The growth and perfection of the seed rests not with the husbandman. God alone can ripen the harvest. But man’s co-operation is required. God’s work for us demands the action of our mind, the exercise of our faith. We must seek His favors with the whole heart if the showers of grace are to come to us. We should improve every opportunity of placing ourselves in the channel of blessing" TM 508.1

Since the rain is a message from God revealed by the Spirit, and since we all know that this prophecy will fully fulfil at this time of the end in Seventh Day Adventist church, then we should be expecting that God would give us two (2) messages represented by the former and latter rain before the out pouring of the Holy Spirit in power. We must not fail to realize that the latter rain comes in the form of a message to the SDA church to prepare God's people for the outpouring of the HOLY SPIRIT IN P OWER. We must have the message first to prepare us to be channels through whom the Holy Spirit can work. The Spirit of prophecy further puts it this way;

"The Holy Spirit is waiting for channels through whom to work. . . . Satan will not always triumph. The Spirit of God will be poured out upon the church just as soon as the vessels are prepared to receive it." That I May Know Him, pp. 330.

{Early Writings 271.2} “I heard those clothed with the armour speak forth the truth with great power. ... All fear of their relatives was gone, and the truth alone was exalted to them. They had been hungering and thirsting for truth; it was dearer and more precious than life. I asked what had made this great change. An angel answered, "It is the latter rain ..."

Notice that according to page 270, there will be a shaking in the church that will be caused by a message. Some of the members will reject this message (rain) and some will accept. The message will have its effect upon the heart of those who receive, lead them to exalt the standard and pour forth the straight truth. Those who will reject the message will rise up, against it. And the next page (Page 271) continues to describe the latter rain that made the difference, and brought the truth to those who received it, and they receive it because they had been hungering and thirsting for TRUTH not power.

Now fellow Seventh-day Adventist, are you asking for the rain, the revelation of timely truth that is falling on the hearts of some of the Seventh-day Adventists now, enlightening their minds and preparing them to receive the Pentecostal power? Latter Rain and Pentecostal (Prt 1)

Let us prepare our minds with one beautiful statement from the pen of Inspiration taken from; Messages to Young People, page 260.
“Do not read the word in the light of former opinions; but, with a mind free from prejudice, search it carefully and prayerfully. If, as you read, conviction comes, and you see that your cherished opinions are not in harmony with the word, do not try to make the word fit these opinions. Make your opinions fit the word. Do not allow what you have believed or practiced in the past to control your understanding. Open the eyes of your mind to behold wondrous things out of the law. Find out what is written, and then plant your feet on the eternal Rock”.

Beautiful and clear statement that needs no comment. Now, from the introduction posted previously we learnt there’s going to be a re-manifestation for the completion of the gospel, the “latter Rain” and the “Pentecostal Power” that disappeared when the primitive apostolic caliber ceased. We moreover saw that in fact, if we do not progress to have the full understanding of what the rain is, says Inspiration, "we shall not recognize the manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the latter rain; it may be falling on hearts all around us, but we shall not discern or receive it.”*_ and if we do not receive it, continues Inspiration, _*"we shall lose our souls, and the responsibility will lie at our own door." {TM 507.2}

We shall begin our study with
Zach. 10:1 “Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; [so] the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.”

This scripture reveals that:
1 We should ask for the latter rain in its time. But when is the time?
2 That God will cause showers of rain to fall on every grass in the field in the time of the latter rain.
3. The grass is symbolical representation of “people” who are to receive the rain (Isaiah 40:6, 7)

The question remains, -- WHAT IS THE LATTER RAIN??
let's move to
Joel 2:23 “Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
Joe 2:24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil.

1 Here we see again that the rain is to fall for the "CHILDREN OF ZION," -- the church. Thus, the phrase: “To every grass in the field" refers to – every ordinary member in the church. --- ZION.

2 It is important to notice that the people who are promised the latter rain have already been given the "former rain moderately, however when that promised latter rain comes, it brings with it the former rain, and both the former and the latter rain come in a first month (around the same time) Joel 2:23.

3. Notice that verse 24 describes maturity that follows as a result of the former and the later rain, after the former and the latter rains are given. We can understand this by studying the agricultural harvest. In the agricultural harvest, the first rain is needed to cause the crops to sprout out, and the latter rain causes them to fully mature for harvest. Thus, the latter rain brings maturity and this latter rain is to do likewise.

This fact is verified in the following scripture;
Deut. 11:14 “That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.

The above scripture although refers to literal rain for agricultural harvest, it points out that the harvest comes after the latter rain is given. Thus, the latter rain precedes the harvest, and it is to cause the crops to fully develop and mature for harvest.

4 Here we see that, since Inspiration makes crops or grass figurative of people of God (Isa. 40:6), whatever makes them become fully developed and matured for harvest is termed as rain; and since the word of God (Timely Truth) is the spiritual food that brings a Christian to maturity – the full stature, it is self-evidence that the rain that brings maturity is none other than a message from God. In other words, the prophecy makes the "rain" figurative of spiritual nourishment, timely Truth.

5. To repeat, when the terms grass, wheat, or corn are employed to designate the people in the latter days, then the spiritual food necessary to bring them to their full Christian stature is appropriately termed "latter rain" (Zech. 10:1). Says the scriptures in defining the rain;

Deut. 32: 1, 2 “Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

We see plainly that the rain symbolizes a message from God, a heaven-sent message. Being latter symbolizes the last message of Truth (Timely Truth) from God to His people which is to fully prepare them for harvest. The latter rain to SDA Church accordingly, is a miracle-working Truth that causes the saints to mature for the harvest of which the 144,000 are the first fruits (Rev. 14:4). The last message (a latter rain of truth) to the poor, lukewarm, blind, miserable, deplorable Laodicean Church. A message of revival and reformation to awake and prepare them for harvest. Inspiration put it this way;

"The latter rain, ripening earth’s harvest, represents the spiritual grace that prepares the church for the coming of the Son of man. But unless the former rain has fallen, there will be no life; the green blade will not spring up. Unless the early showers have done their work, the latter rain can bring no seed to perfection. TM 506.2 .... There must be a constant development of Christian virtue, a constant advancement in Christian experience. This we should seek with intensity of desire, that we may adorn the doctrine of Christ our Saviour. Testimony to Ministers pg 506. par. 3

Note that the latter rain brings Christian maturity to full stature. This manifestation of the Spirit in Truth (Joel 2:23) however, should not be confused with the manifestation of the Spirit in Power (Joel 2:28). We shall continue in part two.

Latter Rain and Pentecostal Power (Introduction)
When ancient Israel marched out of Egypt, "the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night." "And in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents." Ex. 13:21; Num. 9:17. But some years after the Israelitish movement had marched into the "promised land," God withdrew His personal presence from among them, because of their great sin of which they refused to repent, and Nebuchadnezzar carried them away to Babylon.
Similar incident occurs in the Christian era. We know as Seventh-day Adventists that the first Christian church was high lifted up and strong like a mountain, and was blessed with the Pentecostal power, sadly however, there was to be a FALLING-AWAY (2Thess 2:3). The gift of miracles and power the apostles received on the day of Pentecost was to abide with them forever, even with their successors. But after the death of the apostles, the devil succeeded in sowing tares among the wheat when men slept (Matt. 13), the church began to decline from true godliness until it reached the dark ages. The Pentecostal power with the gift of miracles gradually disappeared, and the church was subjected to papal bo***ge – “Spiritual Babylon.” And though the Spirit has at different times appeared in the form of the Spirit of Truth, His Pentecostal power and presence have never since been re-imparted.
We are however not to understand as Adventists that the gospel work will close without the Pentecostal Power. Although the tares have been in the church since the apostles’ departure, Inspiration reveals that the Laodicean church (SDA) which is the last in the cycle of the impure churches will be purified, and the tares removed, and the church will reach the condition and be ready to receive the Pentecostal power. But what is the condition of receiving the power? This subject is entitled "The Latter Rain and the Pentecostal Power."
We shall close with one statement from the Spirit of Prophecy;
{Testimony to Ministers pg 507 Par 1, 2} “…. Only those who are living up to the light they have will receive greater light. Unless we are daily advancing in the exemplification of the active Christian virtues, WE SHALL NOT RECOGNIZE THE MANIFESTATIONS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE LATTER RAIN. IT MAY BE FALLING ON HEARTS ALL AROUND US, BUT WE SHALL NOT DISCERN OR RECEIVE IT. … If we do not progress, if we do not place ourselves in an attitude to receive both the former and the latter rain, we shall lose our souls, and the responsibility will lie at our own door. {TM 507.2}
The statement above as we see is addressing Seventh-day Adventists, that some will have greater light in the church than others. It shows those serious Adventists living up to the light they have, those willing to serve God, serving Him according to their abilities and longing to do His will, such will receive greater light. It points out the fact that Christianity is a religion of progress, and our Christian life as well as our knowledge in Christianity must increase. Thus, since light grows, our knowledge on the subject of the latter rain must increase, and in fact, if we do not progress to have the full understanding of what the rain is, says Inspiration, "we shall not recognize the manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the latter rain; it may be falling on hearts all around us, but we shall not discern or receive it.” and if we do not receive it, continues Inspiration, "we shall lose our souls, and the responsibility will lie at our own door." {TM 507.2}*_
This brings the question – “What is the Latter Rain? How relevance is it to us as Adventists? How are we going to receive It, and what is the condition for receiving? Is the Latter Rain only the Pentecostal power?

What Is the Gospel Part Two (2)
In the first post (Part 1) it was proven that
1. Christ was a Messenger for the gospel (Luk 4:18; Joh 12:49; 14:24), and the gospel He preached was About the Kingdom of God (Mark 1:14, 15; 9:35; 4:23;24:14). And that the gospel of the kingdom of God was to be preached from John the Baptist’s time (Luke 16:16), and “… this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (Mat 24:14). Therefore, the true in a full sense, is the gospel of the kingdom of God which Christ will rule (Isa. 9:6-7).
2. We moreover saw in the comments that the apostles were entrusted by God to preserve the gospel (Thess. 2:4) which is the gospel of the kingdom of God, therefore, apostle Paul preached the kingdom of God in connection with Christ the king the Jews rejected (Acts 28:30-31; 20:25), deacon Philip too preached about Christ in connection with the kingdom of God (Acts 8:12), and Peter and James preached the kingdom of God in connection with Christ the king of the kingdom (2Pet. 1:11; Acts 3:19-21; James 2:5). Therefore, the gospel of the Kingdom in connection with Christ is the true gospel, and anyone who preaches any other gospel than the true gospel is under a curse (Gal. 1:6-9). Now, in this part two, we are going to answer the question;
What Is the Gospel of the Kingdom of God?
Says Christ, “But seek you FIRST the kingdom of God, and His righteousness…” (Matt. 6:33). If you are to seek something as your first goal and focus in life, you must know exactly what it is! This chapter contains what we call “The Lord’s Prayer” (vs. 9-13). Christ instructs Christians to pray “after this manner,” and then continues by adding the phrase, “Thy kingdom come.”
In the book of Luke Jesus said “The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it" (Luk 16:16); and He repeated in the book of Matthew that “this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." (Mat 24:14.).
The Kingdom of God is the dominant theme of not only the New Testament, but of the whole Bible. Yet, incredibly, most know little or nothing of it. This world’s ministers are oblivious to this gospel, and never preach about it. Therefore, virtually the whole world stands in complete ignorance of the single greatest truth in God’s Word!
The word “Gospel” is an old English word meaning “god spell” or good news, and the word “Kingdom” is also an old English term, meaning “king and dominion.” Therefore, a kingdom is at least a nation with a government. It is therefore accurate to say that Christ preached “the good news of the kingdom of God.” “And he said unto them, ‘Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mar 16:15).
The word gospel is found over 100 times in the Bible. Sometimes it is found alone, and sometimes “of the kingdom” follows it. Other times, it includes “of the kingdom of God,” or the equivalent phrase “of the kingdom of heaven” which is also found about 33 times in the New Testament.
Note that it says, “of heaven,” not “in heaven.” It is heaven’s Kingdom, and there is a big difference between the two. Just as Kingdom of God means God’s Kingdom—not the Kingdom in God—the same is true of the Kingdom of heaven or heaven’s Kingdom. (While the phrase “kingdom of heaven” can specifically apply to certain phases of the Kingdom of God’s development, it still refers to God’s government on Earth and not only in heaven. Throughout the New Testament, the phrase “kingdom of God” 75 times, and “kingdom of heaven” 33 times, and all are clearly one and the same.
Most Christians do not understand even the most basic elements of the Kingdom of God. Some believe that this Kingdom is in the hearts of men. Others believe that it is wherever you find a particular denomination. Still others believe that it is Jesus Christ Himself. Some believe that it is on Earth now, with others believing that it is yet to come, but not understanding how or when this will occur.
There are FOUR necessary components of any kingdom: (1) Land, property or territory—however large or small. In other words, one must have a specific and definite set of boundaries establishing the size of the kingdom, (2) a ruler, king, monarch or governor leading the government, (3) people or subjects living within the territory governed, and (4) a system of laws and rules and a basic structure of government.
No kingdom is complete without all these basic elements. But how does this apply to God’s Kingdom? Is this to be a literal, physical place on Earth, with people and laws, presided over by a ruler?
The Same Kingdom Promised to Israel Through the Mouths of All the Old Testament Prophets
“Hearken, my beloved brethren, has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to them that love Him?” (James 2:5).
This promised kingdom Apostle Peter refers -“Repent you therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.” Acts 3:19-21
Notice that Peter refers to “the presence of the Lord” (vs. 19). Verse 20 states that God “shall send Jesus Christ.” Verse 21 describes one period under God’s Kingdom as the “restitution of all things.” Peter stated that this “restitution” is something “God has spoken by the mouth of ALL His Holy Prophets since the world began.”

Dear brethren in the Adventist faith, Christian greetings to you all. It’s been a while, and I sincerely hope we’re doing well by His grace. As we know, although the year is not ended according to God’s reckoning of times, it’s however ended according to the Gregorian calendar we currently use in the world. In this sense, we say *“Happy New Year”* to you all. May this new year bring success to everyone of us, and may God help us to achieve our heart desires for the year as He wills.

This platform created for only SDAs will continue to freely give its time in this year (2022) to minister on this platform for the sake of;

1 Those honest Adventists who are willing to be corrected, and willing to receive divine enlightenment; those who are willing to be fed with butter & honey, so to enable them become wise and strong enough to refuse the evil and choose the good.

2 Those who admit the fact that even though we have truth, but NOT all our expositions of Scripture are without an error irrespective of how long we have believed them to be truth. (CW 35.2)

3 Those who do not oppose everything that is not in accordance with their own ideas as did the Jewish nation in their rejection of Christ. But see the necessity of closely examining the living oracles, weighing evidences and comparing scriptures in search for truth. CW 36.1

4 Those who know that if the pillars of our faith will not stand the test of investigation, it is time that we knew it, and will not allow the spirit of pharisaism cherished among them. CW 44.2.

5 Those who admit the fact, and heed to the council that; _*“We have many lessons to learn, and many, many to unlearn. … Those who think that they will never have to give up a cherished view, never have occasion to change an opinion, will be disappointed.”* CW 37. 1._

I was listening to a radio Charismatic preacher on his topic – “The Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Gospel of Healing.” In disagreement with him, this question came to mind of which I meditated upon -
“What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ?”
Some proclaim a “gospel of salvation,” others a “gospel of grace.” Still others believe a “gospel of miracles” or of “healing.” And there are some who merely think of “gospel music” when they hear the word “Gospel”. What actually is the “Gospel”?
Most modern preachers teach that the gospel of Jesus Christ is about Jesus Christ, and refers exclusively to Him. Even most of my own SDA Church members think this way. Is that true? Is “The gospel of Christ” HIS GOSPEL—HIS MESSAGE about the Kingdom of God or it is Christ Himself? Let us first establish the fact that;
Christ Was a Messenger of the Gospel
Says Christ - “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” (Luk 4:18); again, "For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak" (Joh 12:49; John 14:24, etc).
Here we see Christ was a Messenger sent from God and His message was to preach the “Gospel”. Mark refers to this message when he states - “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ” (Mrk 1:1). The question still remains;
What Then is the Gospel Christ Preached?
The Bible answers; “… Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, 'The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel" (Mark 1:14, 15).
Thus, according to Mark’s account, Jesus was in Galilee preaching “the gospel of the kingdom of God.” This is the gospel that Jesus preached, He functioned as a messenger—a REPRESENTATIVE—a SPOKESMAN for the coming Kingdom of God. It was in this same context that He said, “Repent you, and believe the gospel.” Which gospel? The gospel of the “kingdom of God.”
Matthew’s account mentions “gospel of the kingdom” three times. Notice: “And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people” (9:35;Mat 4:23;24:14).
Luke records that Jesus Christ commissioned His disciples to preach this same message: “Then He called His twelve disciples together...And He sent them to preach the kingdom of God” (9:1-2). Soon after, He sent seventy others to preach, and they also carried the message of the “kingdom of God” (10:1, 9).
The gospel of Jesus Christ therefore is about the KINGDOM OF GOD, for He said “The law and the prophets were [prophesied] until John: 'since that (John’s) time the kingdom of God is preached” (Luke 16:16); and “… this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come" (Mat 24:14). Now, we are commissioned to preach "the gospel of the kingdom of God," therefore, the main question we seek to address is
“What is the Kingdom of God”????
