From 25th to 26th June 2026, our Executive Director Baba Kamaldeen and our lead programs person attended the 4th Ghana civil society forum at the University of Ghana's Cede Conference Center in Accra. The forum is an annual event that brings CSOs in Ghana together to discuss the challenges and the future of the sector. The forum is being organized by the STAR-Ghana Foundation together with the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) and their partners.

This year's forum was held under the theme "Reimagining Partnerships for Democratic Consolidation and Inclusive Governance" which witnessed the attendance of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama , president of the Republic of Ghana. There couldn't have been a better theme than the theme chosen for this year's forum, especially at a time global funding continue to shift and hindered by uncertainty resulting from international geo-political tensions.

For us at Young Peace Ambassadors - YPA , here are some key takeaways on challenges and recommendations from the event;

🔷 Disconnection of young people from decision making and participation in policy dialogues still hinder inclusive governance

🔷 Unemployment still remains a challenge to young people as confirmed by the afro-barrometer survey

🔷Trust in state institutions continue to diminish, especially among the youthful population

🔷 Meaningful and constructive partnerships are needed to further inclusive development

🔷 Development should not be measured in only economic growth but the active participation of citizens

🔷 CSOs should be viewed as development partners and not competitors to the state and private institutions

🔷 Government, CSOs and private partners must work together for economic growth and development

🔷 There is the need for institutionalyze spaces for constructive dialogue that encourages youth inclusion

The forum also serve as a learning platform for young people and CSOs. The break out sessions presented a unique opportunity for us to learn from experience and expertise in several areas of work.

It is worth noting that our Executive Director is a member of the Ghana Civil Society Sustainability Working Group. The group among other groups presented their work for the past year.
