Education Challenge of the Day

Children in school, but not learning.

Learning poverty remains a major barrier in many communities, especially where poverty, conflict, and limited resources affect public schools. These conditions can limit learning outcomes and student well-being.

Understanding these challenges is the first step toward meaningful, community-driven solutions.

Education Challenge of the Day

Children out of school worldwide

Across the world, millions of children still lack access to quality education due to poverty, conflict, and limited resources. In many underserved communities, public schools face shortages that affect learning outcomes and student well-being.

Understanding these challenges is the first step toward meaningful, community-driven solutions.

🌍 Earth Day 2026 reminds us that education and sustainability must grow together.

In many underserved communities, children are among those most affected by climate change. Through learning, they gain the knowledge and practical skills to understand their environment, respond to local challenges, and build resilience for the future.

At SEEF, our Climate and Sustainability focus area supports schools with learning that connects education to real community needs. From trees and water to waste and local ecosystems, climate education belongs in every classroom.

When we invest in young people, we invest in stronger communities and more sustainable futures.

350+ students reached. 1,000+ educational items distributed. 850+ students mentored. 📚

These numbers reflect more than activity — they represent real support for underserved students and communities across Ghana. Through learning materials, school outreach, and mentorship in health, well-being, and climate sustainability, we are helping create conditions where learning can continue with dignity and purpose.

At SEEF, we remain committed to practical, community-based action. Every intervention begins with listening to the needs in the schools and communities we serve, then responding in ways that are relevant, sustainable, and grounded in reality.

Sparking change, sustaining growth — this is how we work.
Where learning meets lasting impact.

Partner with us to expand access to education. Together, we can do more for students and schools that are too often overlooked.

At school, wellbeing does not have to be expensive to be effective.

Three simple habits can help students feel more respected, safe, and ready to learn this week:
• A clean water corner for handwashing and hydration
• A 2-minute morning check-in to notice who needs support
• A designated calm space for overwhelmed students

These small steps can make classrooms feel more supportive, especially in underserved schools where basic health and wellbeing resources are limited. Through SEEF’s HealthEd work, we continue to promote hygiene, dignity, and practical student support alongside learning materials and school outreach.

When students feel safe, clean, and seen, learning becomes possible.

At SEEF, youth climate leadership starts with practical action in the classroom.

Through a simple Waste Audit Challenge, one class spends a week counting the most common litter and waste in their school. The findings are then turned into a peer lesson and a cleanup plan the students can actually maintain.

This kind of student-owned initiative does more than improve the school environment. It helps create cleaner, safer learning spaces and builds ownership, responsibility, and environmental awareness among young people.

We are committed to working with schools and communities in ways that are realistic, documented, and sustainable.

In many underserved schools, sustainability starts with simple, shared habits.

SEEF’s Green Clubs will give students ownership of practical responsibilities like watering school trees, sorting waste, and leading hygiene reminders. These small actions help build responsibility, teamwork, leadership, and confidence, while strengthening a healthier school culture.

When students are trusted with real roles, they learn that their actions matter at school and at home. That is how sustainability awareness becomes everyday practice, not just a lesson.

We are working to establish more school-based Green Clubs as part of our commitment to education equity, health, and well-being.

Before support reaches a school, SEEF first asks who needs to be heard.

We take time to listen to headteachers, teachers, parents, and students because real support starts with understanding how a school actually works — not just how it appears from the outside.

Repeated visits and respectful engagement help us identify practical needs, build trust, and shape responses that are relevant to each community. When schools and communities feel respected, they are more open to outside support — and that creates stronger, more lasting impact.
