World Water Day!

This year's theme 'Where Water Flows, Equality Grows' is particularly noteworthy.

Through our School for All Program (SAP) and with the support of our impact community, we have successfully provided over 5,000 students with access to water.

This initiative has significantly improved teaching and learning effectiveness while promoting hygiene practices among students. Consequently, girls no longer have to walk long distances or queue for hours to fetch groundwater, enabling them to attend classes alongside their male counterparts.

Video: Having installed water system in their school, school children cannot hide their joy but drink for the first time in 61 years in the history of the school.

“See the one, love the one” 🧡

Beautiful Baby Bertha is a 7 day old baby with Occipital Encephalocele (rare neural tube defect where brain tissue and meninges protrude through a skull defect at the back of the head) medical condition and needed urgent surgery.

Unfortunately, her parents who are peasant farmers couldn’t pay for her life saving surgery. VARAS through the support of our impact community has arranged for transfer from the Volta Regional Hospital, Ho, to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra, where she awaits surgery.

We invite you to be apart of Baby Bertha’s Life Saving Journey by donating here https://varas.org/ to support her treatments. Reach out to us if you need more information about Baby Bertha and other ways you can support.

Give to Gain. The fight is now, not later.

This year's International Women's day underscores the need for deliberate meaningful contribution to start and progress on gender equality. The role of all of us in this fight is crucial to the attainment of sustainable development goal 5.

Empowering women especially rural women to attain economic and social development through education and business skills training is one of the surest way to tackling this perennial challenge.

The fight is now, not later, if we collectively desire to eradicate the abuse, bias, marginalisation, and death.

At VARAS, our flagship twin program, The Women’s Apprenticeship Program and Impact Design Lab which is aim to give the rural woman the business skills to thrive, development of self esteem, setting of boundary, engaging in healthy connected relationships and create employment opportunities.

Over the past 5 years, we have created economic opportunities for over 100 rural women and created safe spaces over 2000 girls through My Girl TRIBE programming and under our School for All Program (SAP).

Gratitude.

Ms. Margaret in Buffalo, New York, USA, was grateful to receive a personalized Kente from the weavers at VARAS. Margaret, who is a Master weaver herself, generously sponsored the Sewing Workshop Class of 2025, which is a life-changing program that trains eight Apprentices each year to make and repair clothes and run their own small businesses. With these skills, women can support themselves and their families and create their own future.

Join our impact community today and empower a rural woman for a sustainable future.

Enhancing Educational Facility

Impact Hub Academy, an elementary school in the Volta Region has benefited from new modern washroom facilities and a rainwater storage tank. The WASH facilities were constructed to address sanitation issues that impacted pupil hygiene and learning.

Saviour, the manager of Impact Hub Academy said "Our pupils would have continued open defecation, exposing them to unhygienic conditions but now, with the construction of these WASH facilities, we will practice good hygiene and teaching and learning will go on effectively. Thank you,”.

We are grateful to our collaborative partners that is Ghana Education Service, parents association, facilitators and H2O for Life.

Presenting Certificates of Completion and Sewing Machines.

A significant milestone achieved. It was a truly emotional moment filled with tears of joy.

One of the distinctive principles of this apprenticeship program is to equip the women with necessary resources post-training, ensuring a seamless transition to employment.
Upon successful completion of the training, graduates were awarded certificates and provided with sewing machines to facilitate their professional endeavours.

Congratulations!

Thank you, our Impact Community.
