The Volta Regional YMCA successfully organised a 2-day Regional Governance and Volunteer Capacity Building Workshop under the Organisational Development pillar of the Stronger Y’s Project.

Bringing together branch executives, regional officers, and committed members, the training focused on strengthening governance systems, clarifying leadership roles, improving membership development, and enhancing engagement strategies across the region.
Facilitated by Rev. Eric Gle (Regional Patron) and Mr. Edem Roger Kudiabor (Vice President), and coordinated by Regional Director Mr. Matthew Amuzu, the sessions delivered practical, hands-on insights to empower participants in their respective branches.

Participants described the workshop as insightful and impactful, equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to drive growth and strengthen their local YMCAs.
Regional President, Mr. Michael Yao Dogba, commended the leadership and facilitators for a successful programme and encouraged participants to translate learning into action for sustainable impact.

The Volta YMCA considers "health without mental health there is no health". Mental health is an area of health which much attention is required in respect to education among young people.

As part of Volta YMCA youth led intervention programme brought together 30 young ladies who were educated on mental health issues and the focus on substance abuse and it negative effects on mental health.

Mr. Joseph Gyeedu, the Head of Mental Health Unit of Ho Municipal Hospital took participants through the discussions on mental health issues. He indicated that the individual should be concerned about their own mental health.

Volta YMCA is thankful to KFUM Sverige YWCA-YMCA Sweden for their support for the youth led intervention programme in Ho, Volta region.

Through the Ghana YMCA’s SMARTGIRL project, over 900 girls and young women gained practical knowledge on menstrual health, hygiene, and personal confidence because periods should never pause potential.

At Ho Bankoe Methodist Basic/JHS, 350 students (200 girls and 150 boys) took part in an engaging session designed to challenge stigma and spark open conversations. A total of 200 sanitary pads were donated to establish a Sanitary Pad Bank, ensuring no girl is left behind when the unexpected happens.

Across vocational training centers in Ho, 550 female apprentices in hairstyling and fashion design received essential support to manage their menstrual health with confidence and dignity. As part of the initiative, we distributed 1,064 sanitary pads to ensure consistent access to menstrual hygiene products.

These efforts ensure girls stay confident, healthy, and never held back by their periods.
