Yesterday, our Executive Director, Mr. Benjamin Kwadwo Appiah joined Coastal TV in Cape Coast to share his insights on a discussion centered on the topic: Creating Safe, Inclusive and Gender-Responsive Learning and workplaces.

It was an engaging discussion highlighting the importance of creating environments where everyone feels safe, included and respected.

What happens when a community comes together to ask: Are our workplaces and training spaces safe and fair for young women?

As part of the SAFE-WORK Project, we brought together young women and men, master craftspersons and madams, employers, parents, traditional and religious leaders, Assembly Members, youth groups and trade associations for an honest Community Dialogue in Siwdu, Cape Coast.
From automotive mechanics and welding to electrical work, construction, refrigeration, ICT, hospitality, beauty, fashion and fish processing, we explored the realities young women face as they learn and build careers, particularly in spaces where they remain underrepresented.

With Narcotics Control Board, DOVVSU, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development and CHRAJ, the conversation went beyond separate presentations. We connected the dots: What are your rights? What support is available? Where do you go first when something goes wrong? And how can the community play its part?

The dialogue reminded us that creating safer workplaces is not the responsibility of one institution or one person. It is a shared responsibility.

We are grateful to everyone who showed up, spoke up, listened, and committed to doing better.

Safe work. Fair treatment. Equal opportunity. That is the future we are working towards.

Power should empower not harm. Abuse of authority by staff can take many forms and may contribute to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in workplaces and schools. Let’s promote leadership built on integrity, fairness, dignity and respect and create safe spaces where everyone can learn and work without fear.

We are pleased to highlight an inspiring initiative supporting women shea producers in the Upper East of Ghana.

Through a collaboration between African Ally e.V. and Freeworld International, with support from GIZ, women in the Akoma Cooperative Women Association have received new machinery and practical training to make shea production more efficient and strengthen their economic opportunities.

The impact is significant: processing 75 kg of shea nuts now takes just five hours instead of five days.

This is what meaningful development looks like — investing in skills, technology and opportunities that help communities build stronger livelihoods. 🇬🇭🌱

As part of our ongoing stakeholder engagement meetings, our Executive Director held a successful meeting yesterday with the Ghana TVET Service to introduce the SAFE-WORK Project.

The meeting provided an opportunity to present the project’s objectives, expected outcomes and potential areas for collaboration.

We appreciate the warm reception and look forward to working together to promote safer workplaces, strengthen skills development and create lasting impact.
