⚠️ EFFECTS OF PLOUGHING ⛔️⁉️

Ploughing (or plowing) is a traditional farming practice used to turn over and loosen the soil before planting. While it has benefits like w**d control and soil aeration, it also has several serious drawbacks, especially when done repeatedly or improperly.

1. Soil Erosion
Ploughing exposes the topsoil to wind and rain, which can easily wash or blow it away. This leads to loss of fertile topsoil, which is the most productive layer for crops. Over time, erosion reduces soil depth and productivity.

2. Loss of Soil Moisture
Turning over the soil increases evaporation from the surface. This dries out the soil, especially in dry climates, and makes crops more vulnerable to drought.

3. Destruction of Soil Structure and Microorganisms
Ploughing breaks up soil aggregates and disrupts the natural balance of air, water, and organic matter. It also kills beneficial microorganisms and earthworms, which are vital for soil health and fertility.

4. Decline in Soil Organic Matter
Frequent ploughing speeds up decomposition of organic matter due to increased oxygen exposure. This reduces the carbon content of the soil, making it less fertile and contributing to climate change as CO₂ is released.

5. Formation of Hardpan
Repeated ploughing at the same depth can compact the layer just below the ploughed zone. This creates a hardpan that prevents root pe*******on and water infiltration, leading to poor crop growth.

6. High Energy and Labor Costs
Ploughing requires fuel, machinery, and time, making it expensive. Over time, the cost of maintaining equipment and fuel adds up, especially for smallholder farmers.

7. Contribution to Climate Change
Ploughing exposes organic carbon in the soil to oxygen, releasing it as carbon dioxide (CO₂). This contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.

8. Encourages W**d Growth
Although ploughing can initially control w**ds, it can also bring buried w**d seeds to the surface, where they germinate quickly.

9. Reduced Soil Biodiversity
Continuous disturbance destroys habitats for many soil organisms (fungi, bacteria, insects, etc.) that help recycle nutrients naturally.

✅ ❇️♻️
Alternatives to Ploughing
To avoid these problems, many farmers are moving toward conservation agriculture methods, such as:

• No-till or minimum-till farming

• Cover cropping

• Mulching

• Crop rotation

• Agroforestry

We fed and fellowshipped with 52 widows within Dawa and its surrounding communities. Our partnership with our friends from His Love International Ministries from the US has always produced great impacts. Here are some highlights from our feeding program held at the FTG HQ.
God is good. Please continue to keep these widows in prayers as God is working in their hearts and lives

This week feels so unreal listening to the incredible stories of how God is using foundations for farming to transform over 24 nations of of the world including Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Madagascar, countries in Central America, South Africa etc.

I feel so inspired by the impact stories shared during the Foundations for Farming International 2025 Leadership Summit here in Kigali.

It was so honoring having Kingdom leaders from Crown Financial Ministries LIFE International b2rfarms and many others.

I am however excited about the next chapter of Feed The Generations as we scale up our impact in training small holder farmers to feed their families yearlong leading them to prosperity both physically and spiritually using proven materials from Foundations for Farming International and Crown Financial Ministriesr
