Planned Parenthood of Ghana, Cape Coast Clinic: Project Self-Sufficiency Help us, help PPAG, raise money to get electricity to a corn porcessing machine that will allow a gr We have picked up the project at this point.

Members of an HIV support group, that meets at the Cape Coast's Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana have faced challenges not only with the HIV virus but with hunger. Often people have trouble affording the medications needed to live, healthily, with HIV. Even if they are able to purchase the medicines, that leaves them with little or no money for food. People in Ghana often support themselves

by selling goods in the streets such as phone cards, water, fruit ect. However, once the HIV stigma is attached to a person people will refuse to buy from them and instead choose to go elsewhere for their purchases. Therefore, people of this HIV support group find it difficult to support themselves financially and they are left with little income for food. When medications are taken on an empty stomach it can be very dangerous and make people very ill. Previous PPAG interns have helped the group to purchase a plot of land, a corn processing machine, and a structure to cover the machine. Still needed is electric wires to be brought out to the site, a motor to be powered by the electricity to power the machine, and fencing so animals and children do not damage the machine. We are working towards a goal of $1,500 (3,000 cedis) which includes all materials and labor to finally get the project up and running. Any amount you donate will be greatly appreciated! If it seems like a little, its a lot to these people! Please help us spread the word, and support this project in any way you can.
