Welcome to the Department of Conservation Biology and Entomology (CBE). As the name suggests, we offer training in two broad areas of science – Conservation Biology/ Wildlife Management and Entomology. If you are interested in science and ready for a challenge, then consider a career in conservation Biology/Wildlife Management or Entomology, where you can use your natural curiosity and enthusiasm to help solve some of the world’s developmental challenges.

Congratulations Prof. Rofela Combey on your appointment.

Prof. Rofela Combey: Six things you should know

■ Prof. Combey serves as a taxonomist on several biodiversity assessment projects, including the FAO Global Pollination Project, the Stingless Bees Project (Ghana), the Bees, Birds, and Shea Project, A Standard Method for Assessing Pollinator Biodiversity in Tropical Ecosystems, and the National Science Foundation project Odonata in Ghana: Morphological Adaptations to Environmental Gradients.

■ She is a 2021 USA Fulbright Scholar, a 2013 Brazil TWAS-CNPq Research Fellow, recipient of the Female International RUTA-MELI Award for Eminent Stingless Bee Scientist, and Distinguished Pro Stingless Bee Director from Ghana (2024).

■ She has 15 years of experience as a faculty member in STEM and 20 years as the Senior Insect Taxonomist and Curator at the Entomology Museum, UCC, Ghana.

■ Additionally, she has over two decades of experience as a consultant for alternative livelihood ventures for youth and women.

■ She holds a PhD in Zoology from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Geometric Morphometrics and Molecular Systematics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil.

■ She is the immediate past Head of the Department of Conservation Biology and Entomology.
