Sankofa Mbofra Fie is a children's home and school located in Eguafo, a small village outside of Cape Coast, Ghana. Eguafo is a rural farming village that struggles from poverty and lack of resources. Sankofa Mbofra Fie provides free education to about 350 children whose families may otherwise have no option but to turn them out onto the streets. Currently, the children’s home is providing food an
d shelter to five orphans, but many more children are seeking help from the organization. Sankofa Mbofra Fie was established in 2006 and is essential for the education and survival of many children. Sankofa Mbofra Fie hopes to be an agent for social change in Eguafo. For survival, poor and homeless children often engage in unsafe lifestyles to help make ends meet. These children are not given the chance to be kids. Sankofa provides healthy after school and weekend activities that allow the local children to have positive and developmentally appropriate experiences. Some of these activities include a soccer team, cooking, table tennis, football, recreational games, music, and farming. Sankofa Mbofra Fie strengthens the community by bringing the parents together to enrich their children's lives.
