For many rural JHS girls, “back to school” still means choosing between dignity and education.

46% of adolescent girls* couldn’t afford to buy pads in the last 2 months. Cost is the #1 reason.

63.4% of girls who miss school during periods say it’s because “I do not have a sanitary pad”

31% of adolescent girls* have never received menstrual health education

40.4% of JHS girls have missed school because of menstruation

September 2026 marks the beginning of the new academic calendar 2026-2027 for Basic Schools in Ghana.
And for hundreds of Queens in rural Junior High Schools in Komenda Edina Eguafo Municipality, it starts with a struggle.

No exercise books. No sanitary pads. No school bag. No confidence to walk into class.

We refuse to let that happen.

This September, the Queens of Purpose Initiative is stepping in to equip adolescent girls ages 12-16 with everything they need to start strong and stay in school.
