A SUGGESTION TO MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND GES

Laptops and Tablets are not needed for now....

What our Secondary and Basic Schools Need:
1. Modern Libraries (with E-Resource sections, group discussion sections, all subjects and required books etc).
2. Computer Laboratories
3. Science Laboratories
4. Teaching and Learning Materials or Aids
5. More Classrooms
6. More Accommodations (Houses for Students)
7. Sporting equipment, machines and materials
8. And upgrading all facilities
9. Teachers accommodations

Note: Laptops and Tablets for students is a bad policy for now.

I am pleading that the government will stop the sharing of laptops or tablets to students

Notably: Most Schools
1. Don't have libraries nor books for students
2. Lack Modern Computer and Science Laboratories
3. Lack teaching and learning equipment, materials, and aids
4. Lack of teachers and non-teaching staff
5. Don't have access to water and electricity
6. Lacks sporting or physical education equipment, machines, and facilities
7. Facing infrastructural problems
8. Among others which needs to be considered more important than the sharing of Laptops or Tablets to students.

Ghana -Constitutional Review

The three arms of government: Executive, Legislature, Judiciary.
The executive powers: appoints the Chief Justice, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Defence Staff, MCEs/DCEs, CEOs etc.

My suggestions
1. Chief Justice must not be appointed by the executive, the Ghana Bar Association or lawyers must appoint the Chief Justice through electoral process.
Parliament can do the vetting and the selected candidates shouldn't exceed five (5).

2. IGP can be appointed through election by the police officers. COPs who wish to be IGP will go through vetting process by judiciary and parliamentary committee and selected candidates shouldn't exceed five (5).
3. The Chief of Defence Staff, can still be appointed by the executive (president) in consultation and approval by the Judiciary, Legislature, and Police Council.
4. The security agencies must also be another arm of the government. The Military, Police, Immigration, etc. must form as the fourth arm of the government. Headed by CDS and deputise by IGP.
5. CEOs of authorities, and board of directors , must be appointed and checked by the forth arm of the government.
6. DCEs and MCEs must be elected by their respective districts or constituencies.
7. Electoral Commissioners must be appointed by the Judiciary in collaboration with the Legislature and the Security Agencies (Fourth Arm of the government).
8. Council of State members not be appointed by the president. They must be at least a member each from all religious bodies, retirees from security agencies, retired educationist, traditional rulers, and retired judges.

The perception of people not trusting our institutions may be reduced by the suggestions above.
