Last year, 84% of the farmers we supported were women, reflecting our intentional focus on closing gender gaps in access to land preparation, quality inputs, and mechanization. Women are the backbone of food production in Northern Ghana, yet they remain among the least served by agricultural services. Our model is built to change that by putting resources directly in the hands of women farmers and backing them with the tools they need to succeed.

We are equally committed to the future of farming. 22% of our farmers are youth, supported through initiatives like our One Youth, One Acre Farm Project. Through hands-on training, access to mechanized services, and input support, young people are learning to see agriculture not as subsistence, but as a viable, income-generating business. The result: expanding acreage, higher yields, and stronger participation in local rural economies.

This year, we’re scaling our impact, reaching more women, engaging more youth, and strengthening food systems across Northern Ghana.

In 2026, Farm Yield Africa is setting bold, measurable goals to expand its reach and deepen its impact across Northern Ghana. We plan to support 3,500 farmers, 80% of whom are expected to be women.

Through our market-based mechanization model, we aim to mechanize 3,000 acres of farmland, easing labor constraints and increasing productivity. We’re also building 2 new grain storage centers to strengthen local value chains and food security.

As we move further into 2026, our focus remains clear: scale what works, invest in climate-smart innovation, and equip farmers with the tools, knowledge, and markets they need to build resilient, prosperous futures.

In 2025, Farm Yield Africa set ambitious goals to expand its reach among women and young people, recognizing their central role in building resilient, inclusive food systems in Northern Ghana. Through a deliberate focus on gender- and youth-responsive programming, including initiatives such as our One Youth One Acre program, we significantly increased access to mechanization, training, and productive farmland for historically underserved groups.

By the end of the year, women accounted for 84.5% of the farmers we supported, while youth represented 22% of participating farmers, reflecting strong progress toward inclusive agricultural participation and leadership. This targeted approach translated into tangible economic impact, with 27,539 jobs created or supported across farming and related rural value chains, and 1,931 smallholder farmers reached overall.

These results underscore the effectiveness of investing intentionally in women and youth as drivers of food security, employment, and long-term community resilience.

Meet Janet from Koranea 2 in Ghana, a determined rice and maize farmer and proud participant in our first annual Farmer Competition.

For Janet, this competition is more than a contest; it’s a chance to be seen, heard, and supported. She spoke candidly about the challenges she faces on her farm, from limited resources to the daily uncertainties of smallholder agriculture. Yet, her optimism is unmistakable. Janet believes in her work, her land, and her ability to grow.

If she wins, every bit of the award will be reinvested directly into her farms, strengthening her production, improving her yields, and securing a better future for her family. Her story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when women farmers are given opportunity, tools, and trust.

In Northern Ghana, smallholder farmers produce more than 70% of local food crops, yet most cultivate less than 2 acres of land and depend entirely on rain-fed agriculture and manual tools.

Limited access to affordable mechanization continues to restrict productivity, income growth, and long-term food security.

This Farmer’s Day, we celebrate all farmers across Ghana, especially the 1,700 farmers we proudly serve in Northern Ghana.

Today, we recognize the incredible milestones achieved this year by all our farmers, like Nmah Nsomah, (first picture) who has doubled the number of acres of land she’s farming this year or Esther Awuni and Abraham Yin, (pictured above), who through our One Youth One Acre Project are harvesting from their own farms for the first time this season.

These stories reflect what becomes possible when farmers gain timely access to equipment, training, and support.

Happy Farmers Day!
