Guinea Fowl Farmers Association-Upper East Region The Guinea Fowl Farmers Association (GUIFFA) is a members-based organization which was formed in 2009.

It comprises of guinea fowl producers based in the Upper East Region (UER) as well as individual entrepreneurs involved in the guinea fowl value-chain. GUIFFA aims at using the guinea fowl bird which has a great socioeconomic importance to alleviate poverty in the region. During its first years, the Association encountered several challenges including financial management and lack of group mobiliz

ation in some communities. Despite all these challenges, the board of regional executives succeeded in obtaining support from TRIAS- Ghana, a Belgium NGO that agreed to fund the Association for three years (i.e. 2011-2013) under the umbrella programme: “Linking up Local Economic Development in a Globalizing Word.” For the year 2012, TRIAS-Ghana supported GUIFFA in terms of capacity building and covered the running costs of the regional office. In addition to the financial assistance provided by TRIAS-Ghana, The Regional Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) also agreed to support the Association by offering an office space which serves as GUIFFA’s regional office since 2011.
