Young and Lonely Foundation – YLF is a registered NGO in Ghana, established in 2006 (Registrar General’s Department reference number C0005501601, old number G.17.715; Social Welfare number D.S.W./3842). We collaborate with local and international organizations, including Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights, Ghana CSOs Platform, and Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health, to improve the lives of peo

ple in deprived and rural areas of Ghana. Our Focus Areas:
1. Education and Human Capacity Development:
- Mobilizing resources for educational aids and programs.
- Supporting vulnerable children and brilliant but needy students at our project school, St. Germain School Complex.

2. Economic Independence and Sustainable Agriculture:
- Training smallholder farmers in sustainable agriculture.
- Supporting communities with essential infrastructure such as health facilities, school buildings, safe drinking water, and vocational training centers.

3. Health and Well-being:
- Promoting healthy living through various health projects and programs.

4. Entrepreneurship and Women Empowerment:
- Providing apprenticeship training and work equipment for girls.
- Hosting entrepreneurship seminars to support women's economic endeavors. We are dedicated to contributing to the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically:

Young and Lonely Foundation (YLF) was duly represented by its founder, Mr. Gilbert Kofi Germain at the historic World NGO Day celebration and panel discussion in the Ekumfi District which brought together more than 20 stakeholders including chiefs, Founders of NGOs, Ekumfi District Chief Executive and District Representatives (GES, GHS, NYA, Social Welfare etc), I am pleased to share highlights from this impactful engagement focused on "Building capacities of NGOs for Effective Partnerships and Sustainable Community Development.”

📌 Key Highlights from the Event

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ekumfi District Assembly delivered a powerful address emphasizing:

* The urgent need for strong partnerships between NGOs and the Assembly.
* Encouraging NGOs to openly share operational challenges within the district.
* Collaborative strategic problem-solving to accelerate development.
* Assurance that the Assembly’s doors remain open for partnership to bring development directly to the people of Ekumfi.

🌍 Purpose of the Gathering

Convened by Nana Esi Ninson VIII, founder of Amorkhor Art Haus LBG, the event marked the maiden World NGO Day celebration of its kind in the district. Quoting,

> “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others,”

She underscored the importance of:

* Celebrating and empowering NGOs within Ekumfi and the Central Region.
* Promoting effective partnerships for sustained community development.
* Strengthening monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and coordination mechanisms.
* Leveraging strategic collaborations for both community impact and organizational growth.

🎯 Panel & Breakout Session Outcomes

During the breakout discussions and panel engagement, participants agreed on the following action-oriented strategies:

* Strengthening Trust: Through transparency, consistent community engagement, and participatory planning.
* Ensuring Accountability: Adoption of clear MoUs, joint monitoring frameworks, and community feedback systems.
* Enhancing Collaboration: Regular coordination meetings among NGOs and stakeholders to prevent duplication of efforts.
* Promoting Sustainability: Capacity building of local actors and fostering shared ownership of projects.
* Encouraging Open Communication: Creating structured platforms for dialogue between NGOs, traditional leaders, and government authorities.

📢 YLF Participates in Regional Capacity Building Programme

Young and Lonely Foundation (YLF) is pleased to announce its participation in a regional capacity-building programme organised by the Central Regional Chapter of the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health (GCNH). On the 28th January 2026.

First if it's kind the region, the regional chairman, Mr. Gilbert Kofi Germain who doubles as the founder of Young and Lonely Foundation led the meeting which brought together civil society and community-based organisations in Central Region to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance collaboration, and deepen engagement in health advocacy, service delivery, and community development across the region. The meeting also hosted the national president of the coalition, Mr Bright Amissah and other distinguished members.

YLF’s participation reaffirms our commitment to continuous learning, partnerships, and evidence-based interventions that promote health, wellbeing, and social inclusion, especially among vulnerable populations.

We commend the Central Regional Chapter of GCNH for this impactful initiative and look forward to applying the knowledge and networks gained to improve our programmes and community impact.

YLF Deepens Commitment to Protecting At-Risk Adolescent Girls!

Young and Lonely Foundation (YLF) participated in a national workshop in Kumasi on Strengthening the Delivery of Gender-Responsive Social Protection for At-Risk Adolescent Girls. Mr. Kingsley Otoo joined partners from UNICEF, MoGCSP, CSOSP, and other CSOs to champion girls’ rights and inclusivity.

Supporting Quality Health Care in Gomoa Central District

The Young and Lonely Foundation (YLF) is proud to have donated essential health care equipment to the GHS Gomoa Central Health Directorate. This gesture reflects our unwavering commitment to strengthening community health systems and ensuring that families in Gomoa Central have access to quality care when they need it most.
By our gesture, 10 thermometers, 2 weighing scale (hanging type), 2weighing scale (stand-on- and with height and 1 BP apparatus were handed over to the health directorate to support and enhance immunization efforts in the district.

At YLF, we believe that every life matters and every community deserves quality health care.

2025 International Menstrual Hygiene Day At Agona Bobikuma on the 28th May 2025.

The young and lonely foundation (YLF) in collaboration with the Alliance for Reproductive Health right( ARHR) celebrated this year’s menstrual hygiene day with 5 public schools in Agona Bobikuma in the Agona West Municipality on the theme “Together for a period friendly Ghana”.
Participating schools included;
1. Bobikuma Methodists Basic
2. Bobikuma S.D.A. Basic
3. Bobikuma Anglican Basic
4. Bobikuma Roman catholic Basic and
5. Bobikuma Presby Basic
The celebration was chaired by the District Health Director, Dr. Joyceline Darkwa and was supported by the the Disstrict SHEP Coordinator. The Chairperson emphasized on the need for disregarding all forms of misinformation and misconceptions around menstruation and called for everyone, including boys to be supportive to their female colleagues during some times of the month. She also touched on the fact that being in your period shouldn’t be an excuse for absenteeism among girls.

The district public health nurse took turns to educate the students on topical hygiene concerns in relation to menstruation. She demonstrated to the students on how to properly fix menstrual pad and disposing same after use. Bothe girls and boys practically demonstrated same for understanding.

The district SHEP Coordinator also used the opportunity to advise parents gathered to be supportive in the menstrual health of their children to prevent any exploitations by men therefore posing a major risk to their children’s future. She again used the opportunity to dispel any misinformation of the Iron and folic acid provided to girls in school and admonished parents to encourage their wards to take them when they are being shared in schools.

Officials of ARHR in celebrating this year’s activities shared over 150 menstrual pads and assorted items to young girls of Agona Bobikuma in the Agona West Municipal Assembly. Both girls and boys who excelled in demonstrating how to fix menstrual pad and dispose hygienically were also rewarded with t-shirts.

Head teachers, teachers, community members, and students thanked the Young and Lonely Foundation and Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights (ARHR) for bringing this year’s celebration to the community and participating schools.

On behalf of the organizing organizations, we thank the Agona West Municipal Health Directorate, The Ghana Education Service, Headteachers of paarticipating Schools, Nsuakyir Mboaye Kuw of Agona Bobikuma and the Gender Model Families in Agona Bobikuma , Students and parents for their support for a successful celebration.
