NATIONAL STAKEHOLDERS VALIDATION WORKSHOP ON GHANA’S 2025 UPDATED NATIONALLY DETERMINED CONTRIBUTION 1.2/2.0: Venue: Capital View ;Date:14th MAY, 2026

In line with Article 4.2 of the Paris Agreement, Ghana, as a Party to the Agreement, is mandated to prepare, communicate, and periodically update its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) as part of global efforts to combat climate change and enhance resilience. Parties were expected to submit updated NDCs ahead of the last Conference of the Parties (COP) in Belém, Brazil. However, Ghana was unable to finalize and submit its updated NDC within the required timeline. Efforts are currently underway by the Government of Ghana and key stakeholders to ensure that the country submits a robust and inclusive NDC ahead of COP31.
Following sustained advocacy by Kasa Initiative Ghana for the meaningful inclusion of Non-State Actors in Ghana’s NDC development process, significant progress has been made toward strengthening participatory climate governance in the country. Through strategic engagement and collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and the UNDP Ghana, Kasa Initiative Ghana successfully championed the integration of perspectives and recommendations from civil society organizations, local communities, Indigenous Peoples, academia, youth groups, women-led organizations, and private sector actors into the national climate policy framework.
As part of this process, Kasa Initiative Ghana, with the strategic support of the Ministry, organized a national validation workshop for Non-State Actors to review, discuss, and validate key components of Ghana’s updated NDC. The validation process provided an important platform for stakeholders to assess proposed mitigation and adaptation actions, financing needs, implementation arrangements, and accountability mechanisms within the NDC framework. It also ensured that the voices, priorities, and lived experiences of vulnerable and frontline communities were reflected in Ghana’s climate commitments. Today, Kasa Initiative Ghana, in partnership with World University Service of Canada (WUSC-EUMC) , Ghana Youth Environmental Movement, and The Eblah Foundation, took meaningful climate action at Laboma Beach, Accra! ♻️

Together with passionate volunteers including inspiring young women leaders from our partner organizations ; we conducted a successful physical clean-up campaign, collecting ~250kg of waste from just a 300-metre stretch of shoreline. 🙌
This activity embodies the 2026 World Earth Day theme, "Our Power: Our Planet", and reinforces our shared commitment to:
✅ Environmental sustainability
✅ Climate justice & youth leadership
✅ Achieving the SDGs (especially SDG 13: Climate Action & SDG 14: Life Below Water)
✅ Supporting Ghana's Nationally Determined Contributions under the UNFCCC

🌍✨ COMMEMORATING WORLD EARTH DAY 2026: “Our Power, Our Planet”

In celebration of World Earth Day, Kasa Initiative Ghana in partnership with World University Service of Canada (WUSC-EUMC), Ghana Youth Environmental Movement, The Eblah Foundation, and the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, is proud to commemorate this global day of environmental action through a targeted Beach Clean-Up Exercise at Laboma Beach, Accra.

This initiative brings together volunteers; predominantly youth and young women to take collective action against marine pollution, promote sustainable waste segregation, and protect Ghana’s coastal ecosystems.

📍 Location: Laboma Beach, Accra, Ghana

Our collective action will:
✅ Remove approximately 200–300 kg of waste from Laboma Beach
✅ Promote sustainable waste sorting and responsible disposal
✅ Strengthen community resilience and environmental stewardship
✅ Advance SDG 13 (Climate Action) & SDG 14 (Life Below Water)

From conversation to transformation!
One year ago, we asked: Who holds the power in Ghana's energy future? Thanks to a vital meeting organized by Kasa Initiative Ghana and GreenFaith Ghana , we put that power back in the hands of local communities in Cape Coast, Takoradi, and Ellembelle.
With expert insights from the Ministry of Energy, we ensured grassroots voices would lead the way in the nation's energy transition.

From policy to practice; this was the guiding theme as Kasa Initiative Ghana facilitated an intensive Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action capacity-strengthening training that was convened by WUSC Ghana for partners on 10–11 March 2026, hosted at Hephzibah Christian Centre (Aburi Peduase).
On 11 March, the ESCA sessions came alive through presentations, group work and honest discussions about what it really takes to integrate Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action (ESCA) across organisational systems;beyond isolated project activities. The training was facilitated by Jonathan Gokah (National Coordinator) and Gayson Siampongo (ESCA Advisor), who unpacked the global climate imperative, Ghana’s climate governance landscape, and the practical “how-to” of embedding ESCA through the full project life cycle;from assessment and design to implementation, learning and reporting.
A key takeaway was the importance of coordinated integration. When institutions work in silos, climate contributions can become fragmented sometimes happening, but not systematically tracked, strengthened, or reported. Participants also explored what often drives climate proposals to be rejected, including vague climate claims, weak theories of change, poor indicators, limited risk analysis, and unrealistic resourcing.
We extend our sincere appreciation to World University Service of Canada (WUSC-EUMC) with support from Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada for its continued commitment to partner capacity strengthening and cross-cutting integration. Besides that we also benefited from complementary learning sessions including GESI (Gender Equality & Social Inclusion) & Resource Mobilisation.

Last week, Kasa Initiative Ghana partnered with the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation to convene Civil Society Organizations for a crucial consultation on Ghana's 7th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity. We brought together Civil Society Organizations to shape Ghana's 7th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Let's be real: Our forests are shrinking. Our rivers are under threat. Illegal mining, pollution, and climate change aren't just headlines ; they affect real families, real livelihoods, real futures.
That's why this work matters.
At Kasa Initiative Ghana, we believe solutions don't start in boardrooms. They start in communities. With the youth especially young women and girls restoring degraded land. The youth monitoring water quality. The traditional leaders protecting sacred groves.
Our role? To ensure those voices aren't just heard; but shape national policy.

Wetlands, as defined by the Ramsar Convention in Iran (1971), include marshes, fens, peatlands, or waters, whether they occur naturally or are man-made, and are either permanent or temporary. These areas may feature water that is still or moving, and can be fresh, brackish, or salty. They even encompass marine regions where water depth at low tide doesn't surpass 6 meters. Ramsar Sites are globally significant wetlands safeguarded under the Ramsar Convention, a worldwide environmental accord established on February 2, 1971, in Ramsar, Iran. In Ghana, wetlands are vital for more than just nature; they support livelihoods, water security, culture, and climate protection. Today, we spotlight Ghana's six Ramsar Sites and their significance.
