What if the key to unlocking a child's potential was simply changing how we teach them?

Sylvester used to rush through lessons without checking if his students were keeping up. Then he joined Right To Play's Partners in Play program and his classroom came alive.

"When I use play in my lessons, my learners grab the concepts easily."

Today, Sylvester mentors teachers across his municipality and was named his school's Best Performing Teacher. For over 25 years, Right To Play has been working with educators like him to transform classrooms, and the lives of the children in them.

Have you ever noticed how the usual boundaries disappear when children play together?

In Episode 4 of , we explore the science of social play. When children engage in collaborative games, they are actually practicing essential life skills like cooperation, empathy, and peaceful conflict resolution. Play doesn't just build smarter minds; it builds kinder, more inclusive communities.

Last week in Kumasi, we brought together national leaders, community members, educators, and government officials for the Annual National Learning Forum to review the impact of the My Life, My Rights (MLMR) project.

Together with our funding partners Barry Callebaut and Nyonkopa, we celebrated some incredible milestones driven by our communities:

* Currently, 412 Right To Play-trained teachers are actively using play-based learning to keep children safe and engaged in the classroom.

* Through the initiative, 978 community members have joined Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), generating over 1.6 million GHC in savings to expand local businesses, pay school fees, and support agriculture.

While we are incredibly proud of these wins, our discussions highlighted that the work is far from over. To truly protect children in cocoa-growing communities, we are advocating for two urgent national priorities:

1. Posting teachers to rural schools facing severe staff deficits.

2. Allocating adequate resources to the Department of Social Welfare and District Child Protection Committees so they can effectively address social protection issues.

As our Interim Country Director Iljitsj Wemerman reminded us, every dollar invested in early childhood can return up to tenfold. Investing in children is the smartest and most powerful choice we can make for Ghana.

It is time to translate our shared commitment into measurable action.

When children feel safe to raise their hands, learning becomes something they enjoy not fear.

Through play-based learning, children build confidence, express their ideas, and take an active role in the classroom. Every raised hand is a step towards stronger, more inclusive learning environments.

Day One of strengthening child protection systems under our My Life, My Rights (MLMR) Project.

In Adansi South and Adansi Akrofuom, we brought together CCPCs, DCPCs, and District Education Officers for a capacity-building session focused on social and behaviour change.

Together, we explored how harmful community norms can be challenged and how child labour in cocoa-growing communities can be addressed through collective action.

What stood out was the shared commitment across all levels to protect children and create safer, more supportive environments for them to thrive.

The learning continues tomorrow and Friday as we deepen these conversations and strengthen capacity across the districts.

Because lasting change does not happen in isolation. It happens when communities are informed, engaged, and empowered to lead.

The team had a successful deliberation and validation of stakeholders' sustainability plans chaired by the Regional Coordinating Coucil. It allowed the stakeholders from GES, GHS and Assemblies to discuss and prioritise which of the interventions they will sustain and mainstream as part of their ongoing programmes and available funding sources as an institution.

The Regional Coordinating Director assured them of the support of the region as and when they are needed. They also shared their feedback reflecting on the project since its inception as a learning for future programming.

The project is implemented by Right To Play Ghana, FAWE Ghana, FHI 360, WaterAid Ghana, and made possible with the generous support of Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada.

In Bongo, conversations about sexual and reproductive health were once shaped by silence, myths, and misinformation.

Through the project, however, mentors like Thomas are changing that. By creating safe, open spaces for boys to ask questions, learn, and reflect, he is helping them build the knowledge, confidence, and empathy needed to make informed decisions.

This is what it looks like when young people are supported to lead change in their own communities.
