🇬🇭🤝🇦🇪 Ghana–UAE: Friendship in Humanitarian Action

The Government of the United Arab Emirates has extended approximately GHS 1 million worth of locally sourced relief materials to the Government of Ghana through NADMO, supporting families and communities affected by the recent floods in Greater Accra. The local sourcing of the relief items also supports Ghanaian farmers, businesses and the wider economy.

His Excellency Rashid Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Operations at the UAE Aid Agency, expressed solidarity with the flood victims and reaffirmed the UAE’s continued support for the people and Government of Ghana. He noted that the UAE was pleased to respond to Ghana’s call for assistance, reflecting the strong friendship between the two countries and the UAE’s broader humanitarian support to disaster-affected communities around the world.

The UAE delegation was led by Mr. Khalifa Al Mehrzi, Chargé d’Affaires of the UAE Embassy in Ghana, while the Ghanaian delegation included the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, the Deputy Minister for the Interior, the Director of NADMO and the Koley Klottey Municipal Chief Executive.

The Executive Director of The Light Foundation, Sheikh Ali Abubakar Napari, serving as a local liaison and consultant to the UAE Embassy and delegation, commended the UAE Government for the timely intervention and encouraged other partners, institutions and individuals to emulate the gesture.

He also called on Ghanaians to complement humanitarian interventions with behavioural and attitudinal change, particularly in sanitation, waste disposal and environmental responsibility.
