A powerful Eid Al-Adha message from Sheikh Ali Napari Abubakar, Imam of Dzen Ayor and Executive Director of The Light Foundation (TLF), following the Eid prayers at Adjiringanor Astro Turf Park. 🌙🤲

The Sheikh reflected on the origins of Eid Al-Adha, tracing it back to Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) dream and willingness to sacrifice his son, Prophet Ishmael, in obedience to Allah.

He also urged communities to prioritize sanitation during the Eid celebrations, especially as meat preparation activities continue, and encouraged residents to keep drains and surroundings clean to help prevent flooding after the recent heavy rains.

Additionally, he raised awareness on cervical cancer prevention, encouraging parents to vaccinate girls aged 9–14 years against HPV, while advocating for birth registration and an end to child marriage in our communities.

Faith, Family & Action: A Mother’s Day That Made a Difference.
This Mother’s Day, we didn’t just celebrate moms. We honored them through purposeful action!

In partnership with , The Light Foundation (TLF) joined worshippers at Perez Chapel Int - Charis Temple, Ogbojo (East Legon) for a special faith-based outreach under the SIDA-SBC Project.

Our goal? To champion child protection, health, sanitation, and positive social behavior change right where it matters most: in our faith communities.

What transpired on the day:
A Sermon That Spoke to the Heart: Apostle Dr. Christian Sowah, a trained facilitator of the Christian Sermon Guide, delivered a powerful message linking the celebration of mothers to real-world action. He passionately emphasized child protection, HPV and routine immunization, hygiene, and the vital role of faith leaders in driving positive change.

Expert Insights & Practical Guidance:
Technical leaders shared actionable knowledge:
• Mr. Exogbe A.K. Devine (Social Workers Association of Ghana) on Birth Registration, child marriage & family welfare
• Madam Bernice Naa Asheley Armah (Public Health Nurse, Port Health) on HPV vaccine to combat Cervical cancer, sanitation & community health

Interfaith Unity in Motion: The TLF delegation was led by Sheikh Ali Napari Abubakar, alongside Abdallah Issaka and Abdul Aziz. Standing in solidarity were Islamic clerics Osman Albani (Markaz Director) and Imam Abdul Kadri Ismail (Power Land Mosque) a powerful testament to the interfaith collaboration, tolerance, and shared purpose at the heart of the SIDA-SBC project.

By meeting communities where they are, we’re turning faith platforms into catalysts for healthier families, safer neighborhoods, and lasting social transformation.

📍 DAY 4 – KUMASI (FINAL ToT)

A total of over 65 participants, comprising Imams, Pastors, and leaders of African Traditional beliefs, were trained using a newly developed Religious Sermon Guide. The objective of the training is to equip faith leaders with structured content to promote key messages on public health, child protection, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and social inclusion within their sermons and community engagements.

The trainings were hosted at various locations including the TLF Head Office in Accra, Koforidua Polyclinic Conference Room, Regional Museum Conference Hall in Ho, and in Kumasi for the final session. Across all locations, the sessions were supported by technical officers from the Ghana Health Service (Health Promotion Units), Environmental Health Units, and Departments of Social Welfare, who delivered presentations to ensure accuracy and alignment with national priorities.

The ToT model is designed to create a multiplier effect. Each trained participant is expected to facilitate further engagements within their respective districts by training a minimum of five additional religious leaders. Through this cascading approach, the initiative is projected to reach over 300 additional faith leaders, significantly expanding coverage and community-level impact.

Following the training, participants will serve as facilitators within their churches, mosques, and communities, using sermons, community outreach activities, and social platforms to promote behavior change. Key focus areas include HPV vaccination, routine immunization, sanitation and hygiene practices, birth registration, and the prevention of child marriage.

The overall objective of the intervention is to leverage the influence and trust of faith leaders to drive sustained social and behavior change at the grassroots level, particularly in underserved communities.
