The Vice Chair of the Stop TB Partnership, Geneva, Chief Austin Arinze Obiefuna served as Chairman for the World Tuberculosis (TB) Day celebrations in Ghana, commended the Government and its development partners for their sustained efforts in combating tuberculosis across the country. He acknowledged the progress made in improving diagnosis, treatment, and public awareness, noting that these achievements reflect a strong commitment to public health.

However, he emphasized that despite these gains, significant challenges remain in the fight against TB. Chief Austin called for stronger and more decisive leadership at all levels to sustain momentum and address existing gaps. In particular, he stressed the importance of Domestic Resource Mobilization, urging the government and stakeholders to increase local funding and reduce over-reliance on external support.

He concluded by highlighting that a coordinated approach—anchored on political will, adequate funding, and community engagement—is essential to achieving the goal of eliminating tuberculosis in Ghana

Stigma, myths, and misconceptions about TB continue to discourage people from seeking care early, even though the disease is curable.

The fear of being judged or isolated often leads to delays in diagnosis and treatment, allowing the disease to spread further.

Let’s support people affected by TB.
