Day 1 Recap: Amplifying Women’s Voices in Budget & Climate Action

We kicked off the annual budget consultations with women‑led CSOs, centering the conversation on gender‑responsive budgeting and climate adaptation at the national level. From grassroots insights to fiscal policy gaps, participants mapped out how public funds can better serve both gender equality and climate resilience.

The dialogue continues tomorrow. Stay tuned for more updates on how we’re shaping a budget that works for women and the planet.

From 10th to 12th June, the SIGRA Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by Cowater International and in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, ABANTU for Development, and KASA Initiative Ghana will host an Annual Budget Consultation with Women-Led CSOs.

Our convening will foster experience sharing, provide hands-on budget analysis, and promote structured dialogue with the Ministry of Finance to amplify civil society voices, advance inclusive governance, and ensure Ghana’s fiscal framework reflects the realities of women, girls, and vulnerable groups.

We invite you to join the learning and conversations by being a part of those shaping a resilient, gender-responsive future for Ghana.

REMINDER: Women’s rights are human rights, ALWAYS!

Reminder: The Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act was passed to open doors for women — not shut them out.

The law was created to advance equal representation, strengthen women’s participation in leadership, and ensure more inclusive governance in Ghana. Yet, women continue to face barriers to meaningful inclusion in decision-making spaces.

Implementation cannot wait. The promise of the Act must move beyond paper and become reality.

Implement the Affirmative Action Act now.

Women’s participation in politics is not just important — it is necessary for building a fair, inclusive, and representative society.

When women are present in decision-making spaces, policies and governance are more responsive to the realities and needs of everyone. Yet, women continue to face barriers that limit their full participation in political leadership.

A stronger democracy is one where women are not only encouraged to participate, but are equally represented, heard, and empowered to lead.

The future of governance must include women — because women belong in every space where decisions are made.

When women rise, communities thrive and so does our planet.

Women are not just victims of climate change; they are leaders, innovators, and changemakers driving local and global solutions.

At ABANTU for Development, we believe that fighting climate change requires all of us standing together, amplifying women’s voices, and ensuring that gender equality is at the heart of climate action.

Because a sustainable future is only possible when everyone moves forward together. 🌱🤝
