Today, on Republic Day, I am reminded of a cherished memory from 1960, when I had the honour of receiving the Republic Medal from the late President Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

I thank President John Dramani Mahama for preserving this day as an opportunity for us to seek God's blessings for our beloved nation. My sincere appreciation also goes to Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah for championing this noble cause.

For 41 years, the Teshie Stool has remained vacant, as publicly acknowledged by the Dodowa Regional House of Chiefs. In the interest of peace, transparency, and proper traditional governance, I respectfully call on President Mahama John Dramani Mahama and the relevant authorities to review the legal and customary basis of the Teshie Traditional Council. The people of Teshie deserve clarity, unity, and stability.

On 25 May, during AU Day at the Accelerating Africa’s Growth Connect 2026 , I appealed for greater global support for the and efforts to preserve and promote Africa’s contribution to world peace.

I also| called for stronger support for developement and systems for elderlv citizens in our communities. ensuring they have access to meals, and medicine.

Through the work of the Joseph Ash*tey Hammond Foundation, we remain committed to honouring veterans, preserving African history, and protecting the welfare of the elderly and development for future generations.

I thank God for my life as I celebrate my 101st birthday today, on this special Mother’s Day. My heartfelt gratitude goes to my beloved mother, Naa Adole Mingle, whose love, strength, and guidance shaped the man I became.

At 101, I remain grateful to God, to my family, to the people of Teshie, and to all who continue to celebrate this journey with me. I am humbled to serve as the Dzasetse of the Teshie Traditional Area, preserving the values, history, and dignity of our people for generations to come.

As one of the surviving African veterans of the Second World War, I would be honored for you to own a copy of my story — a journey through the war in the Far East, sacrifice, courage, and the emergence of Africa’s independence. May the younger generation continue to learn from our history and preserve the spirit of resilience and unity.

Happy Birthday and Happy Mother’s Day to us all. May God bless our mothers, our veterans, and our homeland Ghana.

It is a honour to be featured on CCTV as the world marks the United Nations’ “Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives during the Second World War” on May 8 and 9, we remember that Africa was not a bystander in the war. Thousands of African soldiers crossed oceans and jungles to fight for freedom, courage, and humanity."

It was a truly joyful and heartwarming moment as we paid a courtesy visit to Ga Mantse to check on his health and share uplifting music with him.

We also used the opportunity to build momentum and excitement toward the upcoming Veterans Cup.
