About PIED Africa
PIED Africa which stands for The Policy Initiative for Economic Development (PIED) Africa, is an economic and policy Think Tank dedicated to providing strategic and competitive insights, as well as constructive alternative policy direction, to governments on the African continent in order to ensure that holistic and pragmatic solutions to improve people’s living standards are imp

lemented. In view of this, PIED Africa will ensure that the policy direction of governments is in congruence with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). PIED Africa shall review the performance of the government in respect of the SDGs periodically. It equally addresses macroeconomic issues critical in propelling economic growth and development. PIED Africa serves as a credible and reliable platform where critical issues affecting the industry, businesses, and the overall performance of the economy shall be discussed. As a research-based, non-profit advocacy organization, It provides an independent, fact-based, and critical analysis of public policy issues pertaining to trade, finance, investment, education, politics, economy, and technology. Mission

PIED Africa’s mission is to research, formulate and provide credible alternative public policies and advocacy for the private sector anchored on the principles of fairness, objectivity, and economic growth. Core Objectives

In order to achieve PIED’s mission, more importantly, in line with the SDGs, the following objectives shall drive the set agenda:

- Provide credible alternative policy direction for governments.
- Support government policies necessary to stimulate economic growth.
- Support the Private Sector through Advocacy
- Work with Government & International Institutions to promote issues related to gender inequality, women empowerment, youth employment, poverty reduction, etc.
- Promote Good Governance, Peace & Security, and Political Leadership.
- Recognize and award outstanding individuals and institutions for their significant contribution to knowledge, entrepreneurship, politics, governance, etc.
- Bring stakeholders together through conferences, seminars, etc. to discuss issues and projects that will stimulate growth and improve people’s living standards.

The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) expired on September 30, 2025, ending 25 years of duty-free access to the U.S. market for sub-Saharan African countries.

Despite bipartisan support in the U.S. Congress, the agreement has not yet been renewed.
