Introduction

On behalf of the Ayeyi Impact Foundation, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tsekpokumah Richard, paid a working visit to the Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP) located at Akrofu-Ho on the 3rd of September, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to gain practical insights into modern waste management practices, particularly in recycling and composting, and to explore potential areas of collaboration for promoting environmental sustainability.

Engagement at IRECOP

During the visit, Mr. Tsekpokumah Richard met with Mr. Yakubu Abubakari, a Senior Technical Officer at the facility. Mr. Abubakari provided an orientation on the plant’s operations, highlighting the processes involved in:

Waste segregation

Recycling of plastics and other materials

Composting of organic waste

Environmental benefits of integrated waste management

The orientation session provided valuable knowledge on how recycling and composting contribute to reducing environmental pollution, creating employment opportunities, and promoting a cleaner, healthier society.

Observations

The visit revealed the following key observations:

1. IRECOP operates with a structured system for waste separation and treatment.

2. The composting unit plays a crucial role in converting organic waste into valuable agricultural inputs.

3. Recycling activities at the plant significantly reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills.

4. There is potential for community-based education and partnerships to scale up the positive impact of IRECOP’s work.

Conclusion

The Ayeyi Impact Foundation, under the leadership of Mr. Tsekpokumah Richard, recognizes the importance of sustainable waste management and values the insights gained from the visit. The knowledge shared by Mr. Yakubu Abubakari will inform the Foundation’s environmental awareness campaigns and inspire future initiatives in recycling education, youth engagement, and community development.

The Foundation looks forward to building strong collaborations with IRECOP and other stakeholders to embrace change and create a new world through sustainable practices.

"The Risks of Home Birth After a Previous Caesarean Section" by Midwife Patience Awoho

Giving birth at home can be a risky decision, especially if you've had a previous caesarean section. As a midwife, I've seen firsthand the complications that can arise during home births, and I want to emphasize the importance of seeking medical attention in a hospital setting.

"When you've had a previous C-section, your body may not be able to handle the stress of a home birth, and complications can set in quickly. In a hospital, we have the necessary equipment, medical staff, and expertise to handle any unexpected situations that may arise."

Some potential risks associated with home births after a previous C-section include:

- Uterine rupture
- Placental abruption
- Fetal distress

If you're considering a home birth after a previous C-section, I strongly advise you to discuss your options with your healthcare provider and consider the risks carefully. Your health and the health of your baby are paramount.

Nyame Be Ye" Mindset is Killing Us: Time for Change!

"Why do our women say 'Nyame be ye' and stay home when Allah has given us skilled healthcare workers to help with safe deliveries? This attitude is causing us a lot of harm. Let's make the most of the medical care available to us and save lives." - Abdul Mumen Basit, Islamic Council Chairman, Nkwanta North

Improving Maternal Care: A Call to Action

Sharing a powerful insight from our recent stakeholders' engagement on "Bridging the Gap of Maternal and Infant Death - A Collective Responsibility":

"I accompanied a pregnant woman to the hospital, but the midwives on duty seemed distracted and unresponsive. Instead of attending to the woman's needs, they were preoccupied with their phones, scrolling through social media platforms like TikTok and Facebook. This experience highlights the concerning attitude of some healthcare professionals prioritizing personal activities over their duties, compromising patient care.” - Miss Moningma Naomi, Opinion Leader

Let's work together to ensure quality care for all!
