PRESS RELEASE TO ANNOUNCE THE FORMATION OF THE COMPASSION FOR DISASTER RELIEF FUND
Friday 5th June, 2015, Accra
The Apostle Paul wrote:
"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;" (1 Timothy 2:1)
Our consistent prayers have been for our beloved nation Ghana and especially during this period of flooding and disaster, we are in a time of intense prayer for families that have lost their loved ones. The loss of lives and property, as well as the emotional and socio-economic ramifications of this recent storm are alarming; but in the midst of the pain and loss, we have hope and we know that God is still King over every storm. It is alright to mourn; but we do not mourn as those who do not have any hope.
We know that God still has His eyes upon our nation and in challenging times like this, it is important for us to come together as a community of people to strengthen each other and build up resilience for the journey ahead. The challenges of the times demand for unity, strong compassion, and the need to care for one another and deal with our losses as a community.
Therefore, as the chairman of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC) and the Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel international, I encourage all NACCC churches and Ghanaians across the nation to take some time this week to offer up special prayers for the nation, that affliction will not come the second time, and also that the borders of our precious nation, Ghana, will be under strong divine protection. We also want to lift up special prayers for the families of those who have lost loved ones: that the God of all comfort will release special comfort, healing, and help during this time of distress and pain.
I have established a Compassion for Disaster Relief Fund (CDR Fund) to help alleviate some of the pain of the families in distress. Although no amount of money can compensate for the loss of life, this fund is designed to alleviate some of the pain. I am encouraging all churches and well-meaning Ghanaians to contribute towards this Compassion for Disaster Relief Fund that will strictly be used to aid the hurting families and survivors. The contributions for this fund can be made at any Fidelity Bank across the nation.
An independent committee made up of Bankers and Auditors has already been set up to manage this fund and render verifiable account of all donations for this purpose. Action Chapel and I have donated GHC 50,000.00; Lady Rosa, my lovely wife, and the Whittaker Group have donated US$ 10,000.00; and the board of NACCC has pledged a contribution of GHC 20,000.00. I, therefore, urge all churches, businesses and our compatriots to contribute to alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters.
I have declared this Sunday, the 7th of June, as a day of prayer and repentance for all NACCC churches across the nation. Prayer Services will be held by all NACCC Churches in all the regions and I want to invite all to join in this time of prayer for our nation. Even if you have never prayed before, now is the time to join us to pray for Ghana.
I want to thank everyone for your continuous prayers for our nation and I know that the God of Peace will continue to give us peace in the midst of the storm.
May God continue to bless and protect our dear nation Ghana. Long live Ghana.
Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams
