Play and Learn Foundation

Play and Learn Foundation My star will shine one day By targeting underserved communities, PAL seeks to provide opportunity where it is most needed.

The Play & Learn Foundation (PAL) brings together boys and girls who have a passion for play, a drive to lead, and a desire to pursue academic and professional excellence. Play & Learn engages youth in programming that encompasses football and sport training, academic support, mentorship, and community outreach. We do this by providing access to fun, safe, equipped spaces that are supported by com

mitted tutors, coaches and mentors. Play & Learn works to empower our participants to pursue their passions and achieve their full potential. WHAT WE DO
Our programs focus on academic support, sports training, mentorship, and community outreach to develop both the hard and soft skills our youth need to become leaders in their communities. Academics
Interactive, small-group tutoring sessions focus on English language development, creative thought, and general homework help. Athletics
In Ghana, football is a force that transcends tribal divisions, language, age and other cultural divides. In addition to football skills training, PAL athletics sessions also serves to develop skills such as teamwork, time management and discipline. Mentorship
PAL's Nkonsonkonson Mentor Program matches a select group of adolescents with a local mentor who is able to provide support and guidance in the child's area of interest. Community outreach
PAL partners with other local organizations on community outreach activities. This allows PAL youth to practice respect and tolerance, as well as develop a keen understanding of the importance of community service. DEVELOPMENT PLANS
The Play & Learn Foundation is slowly diversifying programming and expanding to other underserved communities. In due course, PAL will develop programs across Ghana, the West African region and Africa, as a whole. PAL is currently partnering with another local non-profit to bring programming to the Volta region. Development of weekend day programming is also underway, which will be complemented by our Mobile Library project. Programming will also be diversified with the introduction of the Learning on the Go programme, which would engage PAL youth beyond the football field and classroom and introduce them to historic sites and cultural experiences. Additionally, PAL is developing a summer camp to work with youth in a fun, safe and organized learning environmental while they are out of school. Finally, another major initiative for Play & Learn is the construction of a Community Center with football facilities.

Throwback Thursday!

500+ girls. One powerful conversation.

During Menstrual Health Awareness Month, PAL’s Girls Empowerment Programme (YAGEP), in partnership with , engaged over 500 girls at St. John’s Grammar School in meaningful discussions on menstrual hygiene, self-care, and confidence.

Other partners included, Softcare, Metro Care, and the Department of Physical Education and Sports of the University of Ghana for their support in making this impact possible.

Empowered girls build stronger communities.

May at YAGEP focused on Gender Roles & Civic Awareness.

We brought learning to life through a mock election and leadership session, where participants experienced real democratic processes; from nominations, manifesto reading and campaigning to voting and results declaration. Four candidates competed for “Ambassador for Change.”

Out of 35 registered voters, 27 participated. Ambassador Stephanie Quaye emerged winner of the election.

A special highlight was the guidance from our Big Sisters, whose mentorship shaped the entire process.

In the month of May, Menstrual Health Awareness Month, we were delighted to welcome to our community to engage our girls and boys in important conversations about menstrual and personal hygiene.

The girls learned how to track and calculate their menstrual cycles, maintain proper oral hygiene, correctly wear and dispose of sanitary pads, and adopt healthy self-care practices.

The session was made even more special with the distribution of thoughtful care packages, including sanitary pads, pad panties, deodorants, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, refreshments, and other goodies.

We are grateful for this partnership and for the commitment to ensuring that more girls receive the education, resources, and support they need to grow with confidence and dignity.

Together, we can continue to empower girls through knowledge.
