ADRA Ghana and the Seventh-day Adventist Church Support Flood Victims in Accra
As a humanitarian and development agency of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is very concerned when emergencies like those witnessed on June 28 and 29 occur. We gather here today not just to hand over items but to stand with the victims of the flood and to tell them that they are not forgotten. They are not alone. God sees them and also cares. We are here to demonstrate God’s love and compassion for them. “Carrying One Another’s "Burdens"—Galatians 6:2.
The torrential rains on 28–29 June 2026 triggered widespread flooding in some 77 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra, Central, Volta, Western, Western North, Eastern, and Ashanti regions, displacing more than 89,736 people from 17,948 households, and unfortunately resulting in the death of about 34 people. We are aware that several homes were submerged, rendering families homeless; farms have been destroyed; businesses and critical infrastructure were severely flooded, disrupting the livelihoods of many people.
As a faith-based NGO, our faith and purpose to serve humanity so all may live as God intended call us to action. Jesus said in Matthew 25:35 – “For I was naked and you clothed me, hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.”
Today, through the support of the Seventh-day Adventist church in Ghana, ADRA International, ADRA Africa regional office based in Nairobi, Kenya, and some individuals, we are here to present these relief items as a token of our love and solidarity.
The items being presented today include:
Mattresses – 212 pcs, Blankets (9 sks)- 424 pcs, cake soap – 110 bxs, powdered soap – 212 bkts, liquid soap – 212 gls, toilet rolls – 85 pks, tissue (paper towels) – 35 pks, toothpaste – 5 bxs, toothbrush – 5 bxs, and mosquito sprays- 20 bxs.
This is not charity out of pity. This is ministry out of justice, compassion, and love. Proverbs 19:17 says: “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them.”
To our brothers and sisters who have been affected: We know these items cannot replace everything you have lost. But we pray they will bring comfort, dignity, and hope in this difficult season. Please know that ADRA and the Seventh-day Adventist Church will continue to pray for you. We will also work with other partners to support you in the recovery and rebuilding phase.
To our donors and volunteers: Thank you. Your generosity is fulfilling. God bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
I also take this opportunity to appeal to other organizations, institutions, and individuals to come to the aid of our brothers and sisters who have been affected by the floods.
As we hand over these items, may they be a sign that God has not abandoned you. May they be a bridge back to stability, health, and hope.
I now have the honour, on behalf of the ADRA family and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, to officially present these relief items to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO Ghana) for onward distribution to the flood victims.
May the Lord bless you, keep you, and restore everything the flood has taken.
