Together for a Period-Friendly World 🌸
On World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, YAAG showed up not with speeches, but with action.
Eleven alumni volunteers and a resource midwife walked into Dodowa New Town Basic School in the Shai-Doku District, Greater Accra Region, and spent a day with 107 students 87 girls and 20 boys having the kind of honest, open conversations that too many schools still consider taboo.
Under the theme "Together for ," they talked about menstrual health, hygiene, and dignity plainly, without shame. Because menstruation is not shameful. Silence is.
Every girl left with sanitary pads. The school authorities received extra stock as a contingency reserve so that no girl ever has to miss class because she wasn't prepared. The boys were not sidelined; they were brought into the conversation on empathy, respect, and what it truly means to support the girls beside them.
YAAG alumni led mentorship and engagement sessions that reminded these young people they are seen, valued, and supported. Snacks were shared, laughter happened, and by the end of the day, something had shifted in that school compound.
The school's Headmaster endorsed the initiative. The Shai-Doku District Assembly stood with it. The Shai-Doku District Hospital made it possible. And 107 young people went home knowing that their community has their back. 🤝🏽
This is what Together for a Period-Friendly World looks like not a hashtag, but a movement. One girl, one school, one community at a time. 💙
