This Easter, we reflect on sacrifice, renewal, and the power of rising again.

At PACKS Africa, we believe the story of Easter is not just one of faithโ€”but of purpose, resilience, and transformation. Africa, too, must riseโ€”united, peaceful, and prosperous.

Let this season inspire us to recommit to building the Africa we deserve.

Happy Easter.

Today, we celebrate 69 years of freedom, resilience, and progress! On this day in 1957, Ghana made history as the first African country to gain independence from colonial rule, igniting a wave of liberation across the continent.

At PACKS Africa, we honour the visionary leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the countless heroes who paved the way for a united and prosperous Ghana. Their courage and determination continue to inspire us as we work towards strengthening our democracy, governance, and sustainable development across Africa.

As we reflect on our journey, letโ€™s recommit to building a stronger, more resilient Africaโ€”one that thrives on Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) for sustainable development.

๐Ÿ“ข New Publication | Africa Evidence Network (AEN)

We are pleased to share that our recent blog, โ€œFrom Cells to Systems: Using Evidence to Climate-Proof Ghanaโ€™s Prisons,โ€ has been published by the Africa Evidence Network (AEN).

The piece reflects insights from our multi-stakeholder roundtable on the climateโ€“healthโ€“security nexus within Ghanaโ€™s prison sector. It highlights why prisons must not remain a blind spot in climate adaptation, public health planning, and justice sector reform, and what this means for advancing Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) in Ghana and across Africa.

Key themes include:

๐Ÿ”Ž Integrating climate perspectives into custodial institutions
๐Ÿ“Š Strengthening data systems for better policy decisions
๐Ÿ’ฐ Unlocking climate finance for overlooked sectors
๐Ÿค Coordinated action across justice, health, and governance actors

Together with our partners, we believe evidence must move beyond reports and into real institutional change. Climate resilience in prisons is not peripheral. It is central to public health, human rights, and national development.

This Friday, our team will convene for another session of the PACKS Africa Internal Seminar Series, focused on Revisiting Performance Management.

As an institution committed to evidence-informed decision-making, we recognise that strong performance systems are essential for impact, accountability, and continuous learning. This internal reflection space will allow us to critically assess what is working, refine our approaches, and strengthen alignment across our programmes and strategy.

We look forward to sharing key insights and takeaways from the session with our wider community after the seminar.

At our recent Roundtable Discussion on the Climate, Health, and Security Nexus in Ghanaโ€™s Prison Sector, Hon. Helen Adjoa Ntoso, MP for Krachi West and a Member of Parliamentโ€™s Defence and Interior Committee, was in attendance as participants examined key issues around access to justice, prison congestion, and institutional reform, including the need for regular legal aid visits to prisons.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of adequate financing and strong collaboration among government, civil society, legal aid institutions, and development partners to address systemic challenges in prison health, security, and justice delivery.

Notably, Hon. Ntoso arrived before the programme commenced and stayed throughout the entire three-hour session, contributing meaningfully to the discussions and enriching them with perspectives from both the legislature and her personal experience as an MP.

: We are currently engaging key stakeholders at our Roundtable Discussion on the Climate, Security, and Health Nexus in Ghanaโ€™s Prison Sector.

Organised in partnership with the Ghana Prisons Service, University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS), and the University of Southampton, this session is creating space for evidence-informed dialogue on how climate change impacts prison health, safety, and institutional effectiveness.

Through cross-sector collaboration, we are validating research insights, sharing practical experiences, and identifying pathways for climate-resilient and humane prison systems in Ghana. This will strengthen the link between evidence, policy, and practice. ๐Ÿค

Climate change is increasingly shaping health risks and security conditions within closed and institutional settings, including prisons. On January 30, 2026, together with our partners, we will convene stakeholders for a focused roundtable discussion to examine how climate-related stressors intersect with health outcomes and security challenges in Ghanaโ€™s prison sector.

The discussion will draw on evidence, institutional experiences, and policy perspectives to deepen understanding and inform more resilient, climate-responsive approaches within correctional systems.
