For the last four years, Youth Impact Workshop has played a leading role in promoting social innovation in Ghana. Over this period, we have successfully organized seven workshops that have equipped over 150 young people with skills to design, prototype and implement creative projects in their schools and communities at no cost to them. Our network consist of past participants carefully drawn from
both urban and rural communities representing six of the ten regions in Ghana. At the workshop, participants develop solid hands on skills in design thinking by identifying needs and working in a team to design effective solutions. Participants also get to meet some key social entrepreneurs and civil society leaders in Ghana who are carefully invited as speakers and mentors. Beyond the workshop, our model is designed to provide project support, mentors and several capacity building programs to our alumnus. In doing this, we hope to bridge the skills gap created by a weak education system. In a youthful country, capacity building is critical in getting young people involved in their communities and to think differently about their role within society.
