🛑 Let's Clear the Confusion: HIV is NOT AIDS.
💡 Knowledge is Power: Understanding the Difference.
🦁 Accra City Leo Club presents: Breaking the Stigma through Education.
*Did you know that one of the biggest barriers to ending the HIV epidemic is simple confusion?*
Many people still use the terms "HIV" and "AIDS" interchangeably, but they are very different things. This misunderstanding often leads to unnecessary fear and stigma.
The Accra City Leo Club, under Lions International District 418-Ghana, is on a mission to spread accurate information. Point 1 in our awareness series is all about Breaking the Confusion.
Here is the simple breakdown:
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus): This is a virus. It attacks the body's immune system, specifically the CD4 cells (T cells), which help the immune system fight off infections.
AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome): This is a condition. It is the most severe and advanced stage of an HIV infection. AIDS occurs when a person's immune system is severely damaged by the virus.
The Key Takeaway: With proper medical care and consistent treatment, people with HIV can live long, healthy lives and never develop AIDS.
Why does this matter? Because when we know better, we do better. Understanding this difference helps us:
✅ Support those living with HIV.
✅ Fight stigma with facts.
✅ Encourage more people to get tested and start treatment early.
As Lions and Leos, we believe in serving our community, and sometimes, the best way to serve is by spreading knowledge. Join us in this fight. Share this flyer, tag a friend, and let’s make a difference.
