Earlier today, COLANDEF hosted an Eight (8) member Land Policy Delegation from the Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs of the Republic of The , who are on a study tour of Ghana’s Land Sector Institutions. The delegation was accompanied by officials from Ghana’s Lands Commission Ghana, Accra.
The tour includes engagements with state land sector institutions, academic institutions, and Civil Society Organisations, all aimed at learning from Ghana’s experiences in Land implementation and reform, with emphasis on stakeholder engagement, civil society participation, and inclusive land governance.
As Ghana’s leading Civil Society Organization in the land sector, our Executive Director, Nana Ama Yirrah, briefed the delegation on COLANDEF’s Theory of Change and highlighted our ongoing interventions to contribute to the in Ghana’s Land Sector. She outlined how we collaborate with state and customary land institutions and our partners, to design and implement solutions that address pressing land sector challenges.
The delegation also learned about the Land Sector Multistakeholder Platform ( ), a body mandated to support government in implementing the Land Act 2020 (Act 1036) and the Spatial Planning Act 2016 (Act 925) and COLANDEF’s role as the representative of Civil Society on the Platform.
The delegation commended COLANDEF for its work in Ghana by advocating or inclusive land policies and intensifying land rights education across the country. One of the key highlights of the discussions was the need for continuous for Women’s Land, Property and Natural Resources Rights as a vital step towards building stronger and more inclusive land governance systems across Africa.
