However, the energy sector remains in debt today than when ESLA began. The data establishes that ESLA has performed critically well but more structural reforms are needed to reduce the accumulation of new debts and efficient utilisation of proceeds.

The Center for Environmental Management and Sustainable Energy (CEMSE) in a press statement issued on April 14 2026, proposed a balanced tax cut approach in response to the recent surge in fuel prices in Ghana, driven by global geopolitical tensions.

According to the group, “diesel prices have risen by 63% between February and April, while petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) increased by 36% and 18% respectively, placing pressure on households and businesses”

At the President engagement with the CSO's on Monday, Our Executive Director, Benjamin Nsiah seeks the Presidents guidance on how possible it will be for the integration of the upstream and downstream of the petroleum sector. A case where Tema Oil Refinery can begin refining our petroleum products here in Ghana.

The President noted that this was an initiative he started in his first term of office and is something he's looking forward to happen in the near future.
