I’m Joye Pate, 2022 Black Highway Birthright Alum and Marketing Manager at Birthright AFRICA.

Today, August 13, I’m celebrating the 4th anniversary of my return from Ghana and inviting you to join me in supporting the 10th Anniversary Passport Fund to provide access to travel for the next generation of global Black leaders.

As I reflect on the past 4 years, I’m called to honor the impact that my Birthright experience had on my life trajectory.

One night, in particular, my community poured into me during a conversation at edenhealthyhair salon with Jidenna, a Birthright AFRICA advisory board member, culture creator partner, and lead of the Black Highway program. I opened up about the excitement and joy I felt exploring the various creative programs at Kokrobitey Institute.

Jidenna saw me in that moment.

He saw a Birthright Scholar trying to make sense of their talents in a way that was meaningful and sustainable. He asked me if I’d ever considered being a Creative Director. I had never heard the term before, but I immediately felt my heart race and goosebumps all over my arms.

At that moment, I knew I’d been realigned with my purpose.

I was a Birthright Scholar with passion and no idea how to channel it. Being surrounded by heritage, identity, and community on the Continent jump started the self-discovery and self-development journey that has led me to pursue creative entrepreneurship with more clarity and confidence.

Now, I am developing my own creative agency called DUALiiTY DUALiiTY. That’s all thanks to the ongoing support and guidance of my Birthright Tribe.

That’s my why. That’s why I’ll be joining the Birthright Tribe to celebrate 10 years of impact and unlock 10 years of travel for future Birthright Scholars.

The Diaspora City Celebration Tour continues, and next stop, the celebrations continue in the Atlanta.

Birthright AFRICA is bringing its 10th Anniversary Celebration & Fundraiser to Atlanta with a Sunday brunch, marking a decade of immersive travel experiences that connect young people of African descent to their cultural roots and the legacy of innovation across the diaspora, culminating with a free trip to Africa.

This stop on the tour is about more than marking a milestone. Your support of the Passport Fund, covers passport costs so more Birthright Scholars get the exposure and education to grow into confident, connected global leaders.

To mark 10 years of impact, Birthright AFRICA is bringing the Birthright tribe together through the Diaspora City Celebration Tour, a series of intentional, curated events across the country designed to educate the community on the mission, strengthen connection among alumni and supporters, and offer a direct way to invest in future Birthright Scholars through the Passport Fund.

The tour's next stop is Atlanta on August 30, 2026.

Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Houston, and Chicago will follow.

Following the launch celebration in New York this June, the tour continues its run honoring a decade of transforming youth and young adults of African descent into global Black leader and entrepreneurs through immersive travel experiences that explore cultural roots and the diaspora's legacy of innovation, culminating in a free trip to Africa.

Atlanta holds deep significance in the African diaspora story, and this celebration will bring together alumni, partners, and community members to mark ten years of building pride, confidence, and connection to the African continent, and to look ahead to what's next.

This statistic reflects the outcomes of an intentional model: Partners, Supporters, and Donors working together to give young people of African descent a fully funded, life-changing, culturally grounding travel experience.

Standing on ancestral soil changes how a Birthright Scholar sees the past. Meeting Black leaders and entrepreneurs across the Diaspora and the Continent changes how they see their futures.

The result is not just a trip. It is direction, confidence, and a stronger sense of identity that Birthright Alumni carry into their careers and communities.

Nouri’s words are proof of what the transformative Birthright mission inspires and what one passport can do. A single trip turned into a mission to make sure the next Birthright Scholar gets that same chance.

That is the ripple effect the 10th Anniversary Passport Fund is built on.

As of today, $30.2k has been raised, and 100 passports funded. But the work is far from over. Support the next Nouri and help Birthright AFRICA get closer to $300,000 for 1,000 passports.

The 10th Anniversary Celebration continues with the Diaspora City Celebration Tour headed to Atlanta!

We are grateful to supporters in New York City who kicked off an unforgettable 10th Anniversary Celebration on June 24th, raising $30,225 to reach 10% of the $300,000 year long campaign in honor of the 10th Anniversary! This means the first 100 passports of the 10th Anniversary Passport Fund have been sponsored.

Your contribution helps provide the life-changing access to global heritage travel for 1,000 Future Birthright Scholars.

The mission continues, and Atlanta is invited to be part of the next milestone! More details, including time, location, and how to RSVP, are coming in the weeks ahead.

Birthright AFRICA is recruiting Social Media Volunteers to help share stories that inspire the next generation to reconnect with their heritage through transformative journeys to Africa.

This is a remote volunteer position with flexible hours, perfect for anyone looking to use their creativity to make an impact.

Skills preferred:
- Graphic Design
- Content Creation
- Social Media

Interested applicants should have:
• A passion for storytelling and social media
• Strong written communication skills
• An interest in Africa/the African diaspora
• Experience with Canva, Adobe Express, or similar design tools (a plus, but not required)

During a powerful conversation this past weekend at in New Orleans, alongside reflected on a message that continues to resonate: impact over fame.

In a world that often rewards visibility, her words are a reminder that the greatest legacy is measured by lives changed, not attention gained.

That same belief is at the heart of Birthright AFRICA’s mission. Every passport funded, every free, life-changing trip to Africa taken, and every young person who reconnects with their heritage creates a ripple effect that extends far beyond a single trip.
