RUGBY FOR REFORM: CRRA Takes the Game to Ankaful Maximum Security Prison

The Central Region Rugby Association (CRRA) has engaged the leadership of the Maximum Security Prison, Ankaful, in a bid to establish a Prisons Rugby Club - using rugby as a tool for rehabilitation, discipline and talent development.

Led by CRRA Chairman Mr. Clement Dennis and PRO Mr. Peter Caesar Kwegyir Aggrey, the delegation met with DDP Joseph Asabre and DSP Philip Asomani of the Ghana Prisons Service, presenting a rugby ball as a symbolic first step toward introducing the sport within the prison environment.

The initiative also lays groundwork for a Central Region Security Services Rugby Championship, bringing together the Prisons Service, Police, Fire Service, Immigration and Armed Forces - with an eye on an eventual international edition.

🏉 Youth Rugby Takes Centre Stage in Cape Coast! 🇬🇭

The Central Regional Rugby Association (CRRA), in collaboration with the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), successfully hosted the 2026 U18, U16 & U14 Rugby Championship at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast, bringing together some of Ghana’s brightest young rugby talents for an exciting showcase of skill, determination, and sportsmanship.

The championship was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, who experienced rugby firsthand and commended the discipline, teamwork, and energy displayed by the young athletes. In a strong show of support for youth sports development, he also donated GH¢1,000 towards the successful organisation of the tournament.

Congratulations to Africa Warriors for emerging 2026 U18 Champions after a hard-fought final against Griffons Empire Sporting Club, while Griffons Empire Sporting Club claimed the U14 Championship following an impressive campaign. Congratulations as well to every team, coach, referee, volunteer, and supporter whose dedication made the event a success.

This championship is another reminder that the future of Ghana Rugby is bright. By investing in grassroots competitions and creating opportunities for young players to compete, we continue to build a stronger pathway for the next generation of rugby talent across the country.

Ghana Rugby Football Union Expands Reach with Ghana Immigration Service Partnership 🏉🇬🇭

Ghana Rugby has taken another step towards growing the game by engaging the Ghana Immigration Service on the introduction of rugby to the Service.

A meeting was held with the Sports Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Ghana Immigration Service and the Deputy, where the introduction of rugby was discussed.

The Service has expressed its commitment to adopting the sport, with plans to begin with both civilians and officers to form the Ghana Immigration Rugby Team.

This initiative aims to promote fitness, teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie among personnel while creating another pathway for rugby development in Ghana.

Ghana Rugby Football Union Introduces Rugby to Ghana National Fire Service

Ghana Rugby has taken another step towards expanding the reach of the sport with an introductory rugby session for members of the Ghana National Fire Service.

The session was led by Ghana Rugby President, Ms. Rafatu Inusah, with support from Women’s Representative, Anita, Coach Jeffery, and national team players Khadijah and Percy as part of ongoing efforts to promote rugby development and create new pathways for participation.

The initiative forms part of preparations towards the upcoming SESSA Games later this year, where the Ghana National Fire Service is expected to participate. The introduction and subsequent training sessions are aimed at equipping participants with the necessary rugby knowledge, skills, and experience ahead of the competition.

Following the introduction, members of the Fire Service have shown interest in embracing the sport, with training sessions subsequently conducted at the Fire Service Training School in Jamestown to build their understanding, skills, and confidence on the field.

The Ghana National Fire Service is currently working with Ghana Rugby to identify a dedicated group of participants who will continue with structured training sessions to support consistent development and growth.

This partnership marks another milestone in Ghana Rugby’s commitment to taking the sport to new communities and institutions while using rugby to promote teamwork, discipline, and personal development.
