About the Opportunity
Volunteer Partnerships for West Africa (VPWA) is recruiting on behalf of a leading, fast-
growing international primary school in Accra.
The school delivers a Cambridge-aligned curriculum within a modern, technology-
enhanced learning environment, with a strong focus on literacy excellence, structured
learning, and global standards.
This role is ideal for a passionate educator who is committed to high academic rigour,
strong literacy outcomes, and innovative teaching practices.
Role Overview
The English Facilitator will lead the delivery of high-quality English instruction across
primary levels, ensuring learners develop strong competencies in:
β’ Reading comprehension
β’ Writing and composition
β’ Grammar and vocabulary
β’ Speaking and listening
The role requires a structured, assessment-driven approach, aligned with the Cambridge
Primary English Curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Learning
β’ Deliver engaging and well-structured English lessons across primary stages
β’ Apply effective strategies to support:
o Reading development
o Writing mastery
o Language acquisition
β’ Use clear modelling and guided practice to ensure learner understanding
2. Planning & Curriculum Alignment
β’ Develop lesson plans aligned with Cambridge standards
β’ Structure lessons around:
o Learning objectives
o Success criteria
o Differentiation strategies
β’ Ensure alignment with progression expectations
3. Assessment & Reporting
β’ Design and administer:
o Continuous assessments
o End-of-term examinations
β’ Track learner progress across key strands:
o Reading
o Writing
o Language use
β’ Provide structured feedback and contribute to learner reports
4. Literacy Development
β’ Support learners with varying literacy needs through targeted interventions
β’ Strengthen phonics, comprehension, and writing skills
β’ Promote a strong reading culture within the classroom
5. Learning Environment
β’ Create a positive, engaging, and language-rich classroom environment
β’ Encourage participation, critical thinking, and communication
6. Digital Integration
β’ Use digital tools to enhance teaching and learning
β’ Support blended and technology-enabled instruction
7. Collaboration
β’ Work closely with academic team members on:
o Planning
o Assessment moderation
o Programme improvement
β’ Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions
Qualifications & Experience
β’ Bachelorβs degree in:
o English
o Education (English)
o Linguistics or related field
β’ Minimum 3β5 years teaching experience (international or Cambridge experience
preferred)
β’ Strong understanding of primary literacy development
Key Skills & Competencies
β’ Strong instructional and classroom management skills
β’ Ability to deliver structured, high-quality lessons
β’ Competence in learner assessment and progress tracking
β’ Excellent written and spoken communication skills
