Junior Achievement Africa Junior Achievement (JA) Africa prepares Africa's youth for the 21st century workforce JA Africa's work focuses on the economic empowerment of Africa's youth.

We bridge the gap between what students learn in school and what they need to be successful professionals in adulthood. JA focuses on three key areas: Entrepreneurship, Work Readiness and Financial Literacy. Our experiential programs make these concepts come alive for students, using volunteers from the professional world to coach and mentor them as they consider their future careers. We believe t

hat entrepreneurship is a key to enabling the burgeoning and marginalized youth population in Africa. But we also believe in preparing young people to be successful either as employees who add value to their employers or as entrepreneurs who create jobs for themselves and others.

Victoria Mikka came into ExxonMobil Foundation STEM Africa as a student. She left with a vision for her future: coding, building, teamwork- skills she'd never touched before.

She shared her story on the Regional Finals stage last year, proof of what's possible in a region where women still make up only about 30% of science professionals and researchers.

Helen Abu-Francis competed as a finalist in the 2025 ExxonMobil Foundation STEM Africa Regional Finals, where her team, representing Nigeria, placed second at Africa Energy Week in Cape Town. She's also part of why a number like this is starting to move: women make up only about 30% of science professionals and researchers in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Last year, over 50% of the 9,000+ students ExxonMobil Foundation STEM Africa reached were girls, proof the push to close that gap is already working. That's what intentional partnership looks like: JA Africa, ExxonMobil Foundation, local implementing organizations, and Ministries of Education across four countries, building access in from the first activation, not adding it in later.

This year, it's a new group's turn at the stage, including the next wave of young women following in Helen's footsteps, at the ExxonMobil Foundation STEM Africa Regional Finals at Africa Energy Week in Cape Town, one of the biggest platforms the program has had yet.

August 12 is International Youth Day. This year's theme, "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," is really just this: young people everywhere are building toward the same future, from wherever they're starting.

A team of JA Social Equity Program graduates in Tanzania started from a $5.8B problem: small businesses losing money to late payments. Through the program, powered by the Z Zurich Foundation and implemented with E3empower Africa, they got the entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and seed funding to turn that problem into InvoPay.

Since then: funded within days of launch, 2nd place at Zenith Bank Plc's Future 5.0 Summit, a Top 10 spot in Tanzania's PesaTech Accelerator, and just this month, Best Use of ICT – Student Project at the 2026 TEHAMA Awards, selected from 380 nominations nationwide.
