Eco-Conscious Citizens Group Marks International Noise Awareness Day By Throwing A Challenge To Techy Young People

Wednesday, April 29, 2026 is International Noise Awareness Day.

The Eco-Conscious Citizens environmental group is marking *International Noise Awareness Day* by inviting tech savvy young people to design a technological tool to deal with noise pollution. Can you design a "Reflector" that sends noise "back to sender"? Can you use technology to send a jamming signal to stop sound above Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) permissible sound levels? Use your skills and creativity, imagination and knowledge to come up with an invention that will provide much needed relief from Noise Pollution.

There is a cash prize for a successful invention that can be piloted.

Ghanaians are constantly bombarded with noise pollution from places of worship, event centres, drinking bars, vehicles mounted with loud speakers, and this has a detrimental effect on our health.

It is of concern that there is no dedicated number to call outside working hours for noise teams to deal with noise nuisance complaints. In addition, duty bearers are often unable or unwilling to resolve noise nuisance complaints.

Ghanaians must either suffer the health effects of noise pollution exposure, which includes cardiovascular disease, or be •pro-active• citizens and protect their health.
