Two days ago, in Beyin, Western region of Ghana, we held our Okra Turtle Project annual get‑together.
As each year, we gathered the schools from the villages that partnered with us in 2025.
In addition to student and teacher representatives from the 18 participating schools, other community members also attended.
The five schools that contributed most actively received a variety of teaching materials for classroom use.
The event served as a checkpoint for the 2025 results and a springboard for planning 2026, which has just begun.
The Turtle Project is now entering its fifth year with clearly encouraging data. In 2025 we released over 3,300 hatchlings of sea turtles.
On 30 December we secured our 78th and final nest for the year, achieving a hatching‑success rate that is almost three times higher than the poor 17 % recorded in 2024.
Although seven nests are still in incubation, these figures are the result of the effort and passion of our entire small team.
For now in 2026, we have relocated two nests—the objectives for this year are to improve field procedures and community outreach.
The involvement of students, teachers, and fishermen is essential for the project’s success.
