SDG 3 — Good Health and Well‑being

The Intersex Persons Society of Ghana’s 2025 SDG spotlight exposes systemic failures in health care: widespread mistreatment, low service satisfaction (only 15% felt their needs were met), and routine medically unnecessary irreversible procedures on children. We call for national clinical guidelines, trained referral networks, an Intersex Health Review Board, and a legal ban on nonconsensual irreversible interventions on minors. Health is a right; demand dignity, informed consent, and inclusive care. My biology, my truth.

Six people. Multiple pathways. The Nusēdodo Project helps intersex Ghanaians build sustainable livelihoods by listening first, then partnering with businesses, mentors, and funders to provide tailored training, essential tools, and mentorship — from auto mechanics and vehicle spraying to tailoring, catering, hospitality, and garment construction. Skills became income, isolation turned into belonging, and what began as six supported people is growing into a self‑sustaining community that now mentors the next cohort. 💜 💛Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (CAIS) 💛💜

CAIS is a rare intersex variation that affects sexual development.

• People with CAIS are genetically male (XY chromosomes) but their bodies do not respond to male hormones (androgens).
• They typically have female external genitalia and breasts, but no uterus or ovaries.
• CAIS is usually discovered during puberty when menstruation does not occur.
• It is caused by changes in the AR gene and inherited in an X-linked pattern.

👉🏽 CAIS is not a disease to be “fixed.” It is a natural variation of human biology.
👉🏽 People with CAIS can live full, healthy lives, though infertility and emotional challenges may occur.
👉🏽 What matters most is support, dignity, and inclusion.

Menstrual health is a human right.
This Menstrual Hygiene Day, we stand for inclusion, dignity, and respect for every body.

At IPSOG, we remind the world:
✨ Not all women menstruate, and not everyone who menstruates is a woman.
✨ Intersex voices matter in conversations about periods, puberty, and reproductive health.
✨ Access, education, and respect must be for all.

Breaking the silence, building dignity.
For the past 3 years, the Intersex Persons Society of Ghana has marked Menstrual Hygiene Day by visiting schools like Ada Kyeremanten L/A to demystify menstruation.

We teach both boys and girls, because inclusion matters. We also share pads with female students, ensuring no one is left behind in the journey toward a period‑friendly Ghana and world.

Together, we’re changing narratives, one classroom at a time. 💜💛
