209 youth graduate under the ACTIVATE Project to Boost Ghana’s Agricultural Employment.
With the mandate of reducing unemployment particularly among Ghana’s teeming youth, the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Asante Mampong Campus, on 30 January 2026 hosted a landmark graduation ceremony for the first cohort of the ACTIVATE Project’s short courses.
209 young agri-entrepreneurs, predominantly women (86%), along with 10 persons with disabilities, were celebrated for successfully completing a 12-week intensive, market-driven training programme aimed at strengthening Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The graduation marked a significant milestone for the Accelerating Change Through Innovation in Agricultural TVET (ACTIVATE) Project, a five-year initiative implemented by World University Services of Canada (WUSC) with support from the Mastercard Foundation. The project seeks to promote a gender-responsive and inclusive agricultural training system that equips young people with employable skills, enhances resilience, and supports sustainable livelihoods.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Benjamin Aboagye Danso, Project Coordinator, disclosed that the three-month programme, which runs from August to November 2025 focused on hands-on, practical training. The modules covered Post-Harvest Handling and Food Processing, Livestock Health Management, Non-Traditional Agriculture Production, and Vegetable Production and Primary Processing.
According to him, the programme was designed to respond directly to market needs while empowering participants with entrepreneurial and technical competencies to create employment for themselves and others within the agricultural value chain.
