We are thrilled to announce that once again, the Ghana Blind Union has identified a young blind girl of 7 years. This girl will now be supported by the GBU sponsorship programme. We will strive to cover some of her basic educational requirements. This include clothing, provisions, and other essential boarding school items. This is part of our commitment to empowering the next generation. Blind people have a vision to reach their aspirations. If you want to support, please contact 0558444565.

Last year, 2025, the Ghana Blind Union (GBU) engaged and trained 131 youth with disabilities to enhance their access to decent employment, with 80% being blind or partially sighted. This achievement underscores our strong commitment to skills development for inclusive employment. As part of the project, beneficiaries were linked to internships with various corporate organizations. Some interns have already served with institutions such as Nestlé, Mulphix, and Opportunities International, among others. The initiative was implemented under the Ready for Inclusive and Sustainable Employment and Entrepreneurship (RISEE) programme, in partnership with Sightsavers International. In 2026, GBU will continue progressing toward the project’s grant target of reaching 270 beneficiaries.

1. Reenactment of the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715).

🌍 Happy United Nations Day! 🌍

80 years ago, nations came together to build peace and protect the rights of all people. That moment gave birth to the United Nations.

Today, the Ghana Blind Union (GBU) joins the world in celebrating this milestone in promoting the UN’s vision of inclusion, equality, and dignity for everyone.

Together, we can continue to build a world where no one is left behind. 💙

Poverty continues to affect millions, but for persons who are blind and partially sighted, the challenge is often greater. Limited access to education, employment, and essential services deepens inequality and exclusion.

At the Ghana Blind Union, we believe that poverty can only be eradicated when society becomes truly inclusive, where persons who are blind and partially sighted have equal access to opportunities, resources, and support systems.

We continue to advocate for policies and programs that empower blind persons in Ghana to achieve economic independence and dignity.

Together, we can build a Ghana where no one is left behind.

Celebrating White Cane Day – October 15, 2025

Today, we join the world to celebrate White Cane Day, a symbol of freedom, confidence, and independence for persons who are blind or have low vision.

The white cane is not just a walking tool it is a powerful assistive technology that helps people navigate the world with dignity and self-reliance.
At the Ghana Blind Union, we have witnessed how a single cane can transform lives, giving many the courage to move freely, work, learn, and live without limits.

As we mark this global day, we also look forward to officially commemorating it here in Ghana on November 5, 2025, at the Akropong School for the Blind, where we willl celebrate resilience, inclusion, and empowerment.

The Ghana Blind Union continues to train persons with visual impairments to use the cane effectively, a journey that often begins with the cane but leads to walking confidently through life.

Let us all celebrate every person who holds a white cane because they carry hope and strength.

World Sight Day 2025: Love Your Eyes!

The Ghana Blind Union (GBU), in collaboration with Synoptik, a team of dedicated medical doctors from Denmark, have embarked on a four-day free eye screening exercise for the residents of Adabraka and Osu.

The exercise, running from Monday, 6th to Thursday, 9th October, took place at the Epiphany Presbyterian Church, Osu, and the Adabraka Central Mosque bringing vital eye care services closer to the community.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Peter Obeng-Asamoa, Executive Director of GBU, emphasized the Union’s commitment to preventing avoidable blindness and promoting eye health through regular screenings and education. Regular eye screening matters because it helps detects early signs of eye diseases before they cause damage.

As we mark World Sight Day 2025 under the theme “Love Your Eyes,” GBU reminds all Ghanaians that caring for your eyes means caring for your future.
